Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

reunited w my vinyl rig after a Summer away fishing…

In arrears today:

Fleetwood Mac - Future Games

on now: Tom Petty - Wildflowers and All the Rest

Neil Young - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere. Reprise reissue, early/mid 70’s, originally 1969

Happy Happy African music:

Angelique Kidjo. Doing Talking Heads Remain In Light. Spectacular!!

Pink Floyd  Meddle  Japanese pressing

Dark Side of the Moon. 1st Japanese pressing

Takes me back to the Wish You Were Here Tour traveling from Chicago to the Milwaukee County Stadium .  They played the entire WYWH and DSOTM with Echoes as the oncore !  The mushrooms worked their magic that night !

JJ Cale & Eric Clapton, "Road to Escondido" - Wilco, "Being There" - Shawn Mullins, "Soul’s Core" - very chill session sorting some new (to me) Bugle Boy and Amperex 6922 tubes. Both sets very nice in my Calypso!

Radiohead - Hail To The Thief

2003/2021 XL Recordings 45RPM Reissue

The original release in 2003 was on 45 RPM LP’s also. Someone in their camp must have been ahead of the game.

Either way, great SQ on this reissue.

Badfinger /Straight Up
1971 Apple

Fabulous album, fantastic hair, decent SQ.

@bslon  Thx.  As an Audiophile not a record collector, I felt if someone kept 50+ year old records in pristine condition they deserved a new home not the trash.

Steve Conte / Bronx Cheer
2021 Wicked Cool

This guy rocks! “Those Sexy Lies” and more…

@dayglow Nice score at Goodwill! Edgar Winter, I wish I still had his and Johnny’s albums, long ago abused and discarded. 🙁

Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass-What Now My Love Side 1

Rosie Vela-ZAZU Side 2

The Edgar Winter Group-They Only Come Out At Night Side 2

Vikki Carr-One Hell Of A Woman Side 1

Lita Ford-Stiletto Side B

Tal Farlow-A Sign Of The Times(CJ-26) Side 2 SQ Audiophile

Dean Martin-Gentle On My Mind Side 2

Gladys Knight & The Pips-I Feel A Song Side A SQ Audiophile

As usual a mixed bag playlist. Purchased about 20 49 cent Mint/Mint- undesirable vinyl LP’s at Goodwill several days ago and 3 were played tonight. Ms. Carr was clearly the best of the 3. Concord Jazz takes the SQ Crown against a somewhat weak SQ bunch tonight. I Feel A Song is a great(content) 1970’s R&B recording with Audiophile SQ. Holds up with Gaye/Flack and Wonder.

Fairport Convention - S/T US Release. A&M reissue, early 70’s, originally 1969

Second spin for this one….Danish String Quartet lead me right to it….

Lankum - The Livelong Day. Rough Trade 2LP gatefold,  2019

Just arrived today.

The Danish String Quartet - Wood Works

Dacapo 2014, German release

- Basically, more traditional folk than ‘classical’, as they are most known for, but a wonderful recording none the less, and highly recommended for a bit of ‘change of pace’ vs their classical quartet offerings.

Jimi Hendrix - Free Spirit.  I wouldn't bother with this one, unless you're a musical history buff.  It's from his work as a sideman with an un-named band before he got famous.

kevin & clare - all the roads

private press christian folk lp...a little bit psych, a little bit haunted. very beautiful and intimate sounding record

I had an excellent trip to view a collection for sale, and was glad to pay slightly above average prices for near mint condition old favourites I haven't heard for many years.

Freedom At Point Zero, Jefferson Starship.

Dickey Betts And Great SouthernFrank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Tales of the Unexpected

Box Of Frogs,

Fabulous Thunderbirds, Tuff Enuff,

Bad Company, Rough Diamonds.

ELO - Eldorado

1974/2022 MFSL 33-1/3 Remaster

Great job by MFSL on this remaster although I always thought my early original United Artists copy sounded great also.

I have been playing more CD's than usual lately because there are so many great deals on them now-a-days... but still like vinyl better and remain ardently Vinyl-centric...Hmmmmm, anyway...

Last Night:

Pink Floyd - Animals
Philip Glass - Akhenaten
Dead Can Dance - Dionysus

@big_greg   Thx for the update. Another vinyl LP now wanted for my collection. On the positive side $25 should get a M- copy. "Century's End" is another great Donald Fagen song from the soundtrack of "Bright Lights, Big City".

@dayglow I listened to the other record this morning with a little more critical ear and can say the sound quality is very good.  While Donald Fagen is one of my favorite artists and the song was very good, it seemed a bit out of place on the soundtrack.

chuck johnson - balsams

beautiful ambient record with a focus on steel guitar. recommended by a fellow forum member on the 'whats on your system' thread. i loved it so much on streaming that i bought the lp

@dayglow I only played one disc this morning and didn't notice that it is sequenced for an automatic turntable, meaning I played side 1 and 4 and haven't listened to that song yet.  Sound quality is decent, but like most compilations, nothing to write home about.

@big_greg    +1  Especially for "True Companion". Is the SQ of the entire album above average for a rock recording?
