I just had to...
Leon Russell - Will O' The Wisp
A day of Steven Wilson remix of Jethro Tull - This Was, Benefit, Stand Up
Awesome day of Tull!
@spiritofradio I agree on Split Coconut, really a great record. |
Hello @bdp24, that Leon Russell LP is like comfort food to my ears, it’s been played so many times it’d be hard for me to be without it. Enjoy! |
@bslon: I myself just happened to return home last night with a copy of Leon’s Will O’ The Wisp in my record case. With J.J. Cale, Steve Cropper, Al Jackson, Duck Dunn, and Jim Keltner playing on it, how could it not be great?! The cover’s kinda beat up, but the disc is Near Mint. Six bucks. I also came home with a white PVC (okay, vinyl)/Stiff UK copy of Rachel Sweet’s debut album (a long time fave of mine), only one I’ve ever seen. The disc’s white color makes it hard to determine condition, but as far as I could tell it’s Mint. Cool to have, whatever it’s condition. Yes, I buy some LP’s just to have ;-) . By the way guys, thanks to ya’ll I now have a NM copy of the European pressing of the Little Village album, courtesy of a Discogs seller. Surprisingly moderately priced, even with shipping from Germany (23.74 Euro’s total). |
Before I forget about todays' play list. Talking Heads - Remain In Light Early pressing, and good SQ and vinyl. Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues Rhino reissue, pressed in Germany. Beach Boys - Surfer Girl AP/QRP issue; the best reissues of Beach Boys. Steely Dan - Two Against Nature and Everything Must Go. I played these two back-to-back to compare the two mastering styles. Both albums are nearly identical in recording quality but you can really tell the difference between the style in mastering. I feel that Everything Must Go is the superior of the two. more punchy and much easier to follow the bass line. Both are really outstanding SQ. Al Green - Call Me A Speaker Corners reissue. They do a very good job in their reissues. My wife loves this album, so I played it and for this listening session she stayed in the room. A rarity, she usually goes to another part of the house when my hi-fi system is on. I guess there is a bright side to that😂 |
Following the lead on a post from a few days ago. I hadn't played this one for quite some time. The Kinks - The Kink Kronicles 1972 Reprise Records Early pressing that sounds surprisingly clean and with good SQ. I agree with @loomisjohnson on his assessment of Ray Davies' skills as a lyricist. While Paul was writing love songs Ray was writing about life with songs like Shangri-La and Get Back In Line. Although, I may not be an impartial judge seeing how I was always a Lennon fan.

@bslon +1 on the Talking Heads. I never tire of them. |
Barbra Streisand-Lazy Afternoon Side 1 Humble Pie-The Best Side 1 Shelly Manne-Perk Up(CJ 21) Side 1 SQ Audiophile Eagles-Eagles Live Side 3 Schumann-Carnaval(LSC-2669 Red Seal) Side 1 London Grammar-If You Wait Side B SQ* Rush-2112 Side 2 SQ Audiophile Brenda Russell-ST Side 2 SQ Audiophile Another Concord Jazz takes the SQ Crown! Nothing had below standard SQ tonight. SQ* London Grammar(2014) Had a static hiss on side C so I spun side B which had very good SQ for a newer release but rated last in SQ tonight. Unless a new recording is on an Ultra Hi/End label its best avoided or buy the CD version. Very few play Streisand here? Lazy Afternoon is clearly her best 1970's album when regarding content and SQ. 2112 original press(1976) is much better than the original CD. Was I a little lenient giving it Audiophile SQ status maybe? |
