America - their first, self-titled album. I had this album when it was first released in the early 70's. I sold it while in college because I had worn it out. I recently purchased a copy at my local used record store. This is such a good album, and I can't believe the fidelity on my newly set up vinyl rig.

I can't understand why there isn't more discussion about this album on A'gon. The music, the performance, and the fidelity are reference quality IMHO.
tonight it's "Go" - Stomu Yamashta Steve Winwood, Michael Shrieve, Al DiMeola. This has always been one of my favorite albums. I have a new vinyl rig and am rediscovering some of my old Lp's. Last night it was King Crimson "Lark's Tongues in Aspic"

Man, this is great!
The Who - "Tommy" ; the version performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, et al. I sold my original copy while in College in the 70's, just purchased a new (ie used) copy complete with box, gatefold, and program. It's always been a favorite, and it's well recorded and a good vinyl pressing.

Gary Jules "Greetings from the Other Side", and "Trading Snake Oil for Wolftickets" (on cd - is it ok to discuss cd's in this thread?). I recently bought these after hearing his version of "Mad World" on an episode of "CSI". It's a haunting and beautiful song, and struck me like Jeff Buckley's "Halleluja" the first time I heard it. Both of these CD's are excellent all the way through - Songs, Performance, and sonics. . . . If you're not familiar with this guy you should check him out.
John Hassell Farafina "Flash of the Spirit"
Jim Hall "Committment"

both excellent.
Tracy Chapman - her first
Neil Young - After the Goldrush
Rickie Lee Jones - her first
Carly Simon - Another Passenger
Pink Floyd - The Wall

at least for starters . . .
here's a little coincidence . . . I picked up Rickie Lee Jones "Pirates" this weekend. Tonight was the firts play. Mine is also the first press on WB. Really nice . . .
Porcupine Tree - "Deadwing"
Klauss Schulze - "X"
Jan Hammer - "The First Seven Days"
completed some tweaks on my table, and bought and armload of lps at Joe's Record Paradise yesterday, so this is the lineup for today:

Greatful Dead, "Europe '72"
"Pablo Live", w/Stephane Grappelli, Joe Pass et al
Chick Corea, "My Spanish Heart"
Oregon, "In Performance"
Hot Tuna, "Burgers"
The Tubes, "The Tubes"
The Doors, "LA Woman"
Stomu Yamashta, et al, "Crossing the Line, Live from Paris" 45rpm

Others from the collection:
Philip Catherine, "Nairam"
Bill Evans, "The Second Trio"
Billy Cobham, "Spectrum"
Brian Eno, "Before and After Science"
I pulled out my old copy of Jade Warrior "Floating Worlds". I don't think I've played it in 20 years. It's got surprising dynamics and a really deep soundstage. Some nice melodies and rythms too.

I also scored 3 albums from Modern Jazz Quartet on ebay last week - 3 albums for $8 including shipping. They're all mint and sound great - "Under the Jasmine Tree", "Best of MJQ"; "Live at the Lighthouse". what a deal.

Finally Bert Jansch "Rosemary Lane" also an excellent recording, and great music all through.
Last night I dug out a few old LPs that haven't been played in years:
Manhattan Transfer - Brasil
Melissa Manchester - Emergency
Judy Collins - Judith
Hubert Laws - Rite of Spring
The Romero's - An Evening of Flamenco
Pepe Romero - Guiliano
Mike Oldfield - Incantations

And some recent acquisitions:
Duke Ellington - Duke's 70th Birthday Concert
Synergy - Chords
Al Dimeola - Land of the Midnight Sun

And some old regulars:
John Abercrombie - Timeless
Bryan Ferry - Bette Noir
Last night -

Jenifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat. I bought this on vinyl last week and received it Friday. It's a UK pressing on the RCA, and even though it's light weight vinyl, it's a superb pressing. It is so much better than my CD which I've had for some time, but was never all that happy with the sonics, especially comared to other Jennifer Warnes cd's (The Hunter, The Well).

This morning . . .
Bruckner - 9th symphony
Hubert Laws - Rite of Spring
Earl Klugh - Late Night Guitar

. . . digging out more old LP's that haven't been played in a while. Rite of Spring is an amazing record - incredible players (Ron Carter, Airto, Jack DeJonnette, Bob James) all playing Starvinsky and Bach.
Last night - Porcupine Tree "Deadwing" amazingly good.
also, Verdi "Requiem";
and John Abercrombie/John Scofield "Solar"
Ray - I almost didn't buy Deadwing because I was a little disappointed in "In Absentia" (I actually thought it was a little commercial). Deadwing is a return to form, and something new at the same time. The vinyl is superb.

On the table tonight:
Michael Shrieve/Steve Roach "The Leaving Time"
Klaus Schulz - "X"
Modern Jazz Quartet.
Radiohead "Pyramid Song"
Mike Oldfield "Incantations"
Syndergy "Audion"

Abive are vinyl.

New CD's:
Michael Shrieve "Fascination"
Iris Dement "Infamous Angel"
Thomas Stanko Quartet "Suspended Night"

All excellent!
Last night:

The Who - "Tommy - performed by the London Symphony Orchestra . . . and various guest soloists" This is a really well recorded double LP set.
Journey - First Album
Joe Walsh - "So What"

This morning:
John Prine - "John Prine"
Emmy Lou Harris - "Cimmaron"
Bob Dylan - "Highway 61 Revisted"

..
Stomu Yamashta, Winwood, Shrieve, Shultz, et al - "Go - Live in Paris"

Joe Pass - "Best Of"

Mike Oldfield - "Orchestral Tubular Bells" w/ Royal Philharmonic/David Bedford

Kitaro - "Silver Cloud"

Supertramp - "Breakfast in America"

..
