Horenstein (London Symphony Orchestra 1959). One of the best, performance-wise in my opinion, and with Pristineclassical.com remaster it in 24-bit stereo makes it that much better than the BBC Legends release.
What’s your favorite recording of Mahler’s 8th Symphony?
Just listened to my old recording of Mahler’s 8th with Solti and the Chicago Symphony, using some new equipment.
Sonically, it’s undoubtedly the hardest of symphonies to record, considering the forces involved.
My new equipment changed my opinion of the recording. While I love the performance, I always found the sound somewhat lacking. I now find it, if not spectacular, more than equal to the task.
I’m wondering what other’s favorite versions of the Mahler 8th are:
1.Performance-wise and 2.Sonically.
