What filter setting do you use on the Marantz Ruby CD/DAC?

There are two filters, labeled simply, Filter 1 and Filter 2.

I left mine default at Filter 1 for a long time.  I flipped on Filter 2 and forgot about the flip.  Later, I'm listening and I think the treble sounds less rolled off on Filter 2--maybe more air too?

I think these are subtle but I also think I like Filter 2 better.

Opinions?

Well the jury is still out here. After about 3-4 hours of listening to some of my personal go to reference material, I still hear some air on top but also extra energy —albeit not substantially so.  I’m not sure I’ll land on Filter 2 given my speakers are horn topology.

I once tried a SMSL DAC that had a handful of Filter settings and found none very audible if at all. Here it is more noticeable yet still fairly subtle.

I’ll give it a week or two and see if I go back to Filter 1. Thanks for your thoughts.

see, and i am the opposite.    i prefer filter 1 over 2 .           with 2 it just seemed more natural sounding that filter 1 did .

Not quite riley804.  I was looking for thoughts on what others hear.  Maybe it is trivial to you but I enjoy hearing what others think.

Thank you nonoise!  I'm going to play some of my personal reference recordings to see if I consistently feel the same way about it.

Filter 2 had the same results on my Marantz SA15S2 SACD player. I, too, forgot about the filter settings and filter 2 got me more air, detail and texture.

All the best,
Nonoise

Then i guess you have your answer.
