For Nick Cave try Henry's dream, Tender Prey, The Good Son.
For Nils Lofgren try The Loner, Night Fades Away, Crooked Line.
Might not be your bag but I agree his acoustic live is a reference piece of work. |
I love Elvis Costello. His records take up a lot of space in my collection and I have multiple copies of a few of them, including a number of the MFSLs (which honestly aren't that great).
My Aim Is True was a fantastic debut, so unlike anything else at the time and such great songwriting. Armed Forces and Blood & Chocolate are two of my other favorites.
He's great live and I love that he's always experimenting and fearless about crossing into other genres. Unlike many artists who have a relatively limited period of creativity, he's still putting out great music. |
@uberwaltz - Elvis Costello has a rather large catalog of albums. I have different friends that like all, some and none of the catalog. One of my best friends, who has thousands of records, says "Imperial Bedroom" is his favorite record. For me, it's not in my top 5 list. So who knows what, and why people value particular records.
For me, my top three Elvis Costello Records are:
Spike King of America All This Useless Beauty
I'm not an aficionado of Nils Lofgren or Nick Cave. Give me some recommendations to check out. I only have the Nils Lofgren live acoustic record (which is fantastic). |
Reubent.
Really only just starting to truly appreciate Costello over the past couple years along with Nils Lofgren and Nick Cave.
Guess I am getting old.... Lol. |
@uberwaltz - I love "Spike". EC is one of my favorite artist (seeing him again later this month) and "Spike" is in my top 5 favorite EC records. "Deep Dark Truthful Mirror" is an absolute classic song. Right up there with "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" in my list of best songs ever...... |
I was like that last night . Sitting in the hot tub with my outdoor Bluetooth speaker at the ready. Decided the one hit wonders thread was topical so dialed up a " one hit wonders" playlist via Amazon. It had a LOT of the songs mentioned in that thread, most amusing and entertaining blast to the past. |
We're fortunate to have a some smaller more intimate theaters where some good bands visit regularly. I couldn't decide what to listen to this morning, so I'm letting Tidal pick for me with one of their "my mixes" - Zeppelin, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, etc. They know me too well! |
Greg Pretty cool night for sure. I do not get to see as many bands as I would like now as too darn hot down here and most promoters seem to think we want to see bands in summer at outside venues, freaking crazy!
Start the morning with something mellow.
The Joshua Tree …. U2.

Uber - Los Lobos were great! I've never followed them closely, so it was close to seeing a new band, except it was one that has been playing for 45 years and is very tight and has a great repertoire. We were front row center, which was pretty cool. They played some traditional Mexican songs with a variety of stringed instruments that I did not recognize, took an intermission, then rocked out with the electric gear. Definitely recommend seeing them if you get a chance. |
|
Greg. How were Los Lobos? A good night was had I hope.
Spike ... Elvis Costello. |
Los Lobos - Kiko Los Lobos - How Will the Wolf Survive

The Who - Who Are You? Qobuz Hi-Res |

The Awakening .... Melissa Etheridge.

Greg I do not see it under android or iPad apps, very odd. I do see an option to run gapless playback in Bubbleupnp but that would be for ALL music through that app not just Qobuz.
Maybe shoot them an email? |
@uberwaltz When I was younger I didn't appreciate them, but they grew on me. Listening to Abbey Road, I am impressed by their creativity, musicianship, and craftsmanship. And to think that they were making music like this 50 years ago... They are not for everyone though.
On a side note, when I listened to Abbey Road last night through my Bluesound Node 2 on Qobuz the tracks played gapless, but when I listened this morning using the Qobuz app on my PC, there were gaps between the songs. From what I was able to find, it sounds like Qobuz supports gapless playback. I don't see anything in the settings to turn it on or off. Anyone know how to "fix" that? |
Fortunately I can honestly say that I have never cared for music by The Beatles. With the exception of a very few songs. I have most of their works on R2R if I ever really felt the need to listen ... Lol.
I gather the 50th is a good work but just not my cup of tea Guv! |
50th Anniversary Edition of Abbey Road on Qobuz |
Fire Like This .... Blood Red Shoes.
Qobuz |
Discipline .... King Crimson.

Doug. I have only listened to two albums under the " ultra HD" label but both were mighty impressive.
With a bit more interface work Amazon could have a winner here. I admit I was skeptical at first but so far it is looking good. |

Doug Its a very good album with a lot of power and emotion showing in her vocals.
I had my trials with Amazon just getting it to be able to play on my main rig as documented on other threads.
But now I have it reliably streaming I have to say so far it looks like it could be a winner with a bit more work on the interface.
So far I have found some albums that are not on Qobuz. And of course some on Qobuz not on Amazon.
Overall I am happy enough as who can complain at a 90 day free trial! Gives me 90 days to evaluate and see what changes and improvements Amazon make to it. |
überwaltz - gotta check that one out - Beth Hart can sing with a ton of emotion!
So how are you liking Amazon Music HD so far?
