what amp/amps?

Depends on the size of your room, efficiency of your speakers and type of music you prefer. Large scale music requires POWER

You should post your parameters. I would say tubes if you have that option. Personally I don't think Hybrid designs sound as good as a good tube power amp. If you hybridize your system go with a SS pre and a tube power amp. How much money is in the budjet. Tube amps, that use multiple output tubes to generate realistic power or the giant single tube types are generally speaking expensive. If cost constraints figure in this "expensive" is 3 or 4 grand min. If that is not big money, live large.

speakers are 88db and the room is 18 /20/10...
Have had lamm amps and pre and phono but felt like music was dark and a bit closed in.

Not a tube "junkie" or "roller" for the sake of rolling but i'm worried a ss amp will not be the best synergy, nor do i want a flea power amp, so....
price is secondary to synergistic effect with the Alaap's.
