Weird question

Build a 4 foot thick concrete barrie between you an the player. Cover it with 2" sheet lead, and I hope you were done having children and like dentures.
Actually just kidding. As long as you don't violate the plastic cover that has the lable on it your ok. I would try and get a cover though, just to protect the inside components of the player.

Ha! As long as you manage to keep you face out of it, you should be fine. Generally speaking, things like eyes tend not to react all that wonderfully to having lasers shined into them willy nilly. We are, after all, talking about a laser....

The good news is that the lasers in cd players are relatively benign but can cause eye injuries with direct and repeated exposures. So in other words don't look directly at the laser.

Who says audiophiles are dried up old curmudgeons? Very funny! I say he should look directly at the laser for a long as he can stand it. After he loses his eyesight his hearing will become dominant and finely attuned making his listening experience all the more enjoyable. He will at this point need to upgrade his system though. (DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!) Or you could just put the lid back on.

Don't worry about your eyes, the CD player doesn't sit waist high, does it?
