Von Scheikert VR4jr in a small room .

I just heard these speakers and really liked them . I compared them to Usher 6311 and the VS. came out way ahead . I also auditioned the VS. VR2's . They were good but did not seem to have the same presence and body of the jr.'s . Probably due to the decreased base .
My problem is that my listening room is only 10ft. X 11ft. I have things set-up on a diagonal so as not to suffer the anomolies of a small square room .
Has anyone tried the JR.'s in a room of this size and done well with them ?
Any suggestions ?
Thank you .

I have my Jr's in a 15 X 20 room. Works very well. Before these I had the VR-2's
and they were outstanding. There is a bit more there with the JR's but perhaps
you could start with the 2's and see how you like it. Maybe your dealer will let
you trade up to the JR's within a certain time frame and keep your investment in
the 2's. I'd give either a try.
Dlwask ; I did not mean that the VR2's did not have any base . Just that they did not have the body of the jr.'s , which I attributed to having 'less' base . I heard them both on the same set-up .
I agree about monitors being better for situation and have headed down that road .
Thank you all for the great help .
Saki70, yes I've tried them (VR2s), I've owned a pair for a few years now. I have tried many speakers in a small 12x10 room, in my experience your just better off with a pair of monitors with those dimensions. Consider yourself lucky, for what you would pay for a full range floor stander you can get one fantastic 2 way monitor.

The VR2s, in my opinion, get a lot of what the 4jrs offer. One of those things is bass extension, you must not have heard them in an optimum set up to say they have no bass.
I measured my room again - it's actually 11' x 20'. Actually I am keen to get either the VR4jr or Hyperion 938 or other floor stand speakers.
Hi Goatwuss

If I use monitor speakers on stands, it would be kids-unfriendly, i.e. my kids might knock them down some day.
Ethifi - that 10 foot wall is really going to be a limiting factor in that room.

Even if it was a 50 x 10 ft room, you'd still have the 10' wall messing things up.

You will either have the speakers too close together on the 10 foot wall, or if you tried putting them on the 19' foot wall, they would have to be 5' out in the room to soundstage right, and then it would be an extreme nearfield.

So unfortunately in the context of audio, it is a small room. I'd stick with small stand-mounts.
Is 19' x 10' listening room (sitting 11' away along long wall) considered small or mid size room? Would VR4jr be suitable?
11'X 12', 10' X 11'.....you guys are listening in a closet. You shouldn't even consider a full range floor standing speaker. Set your sights on a good small monitor, you'll never do justice to a medium/large speaker in a room like that.

I am auditioning the VR-2s for my large room but have not heard them yet. The VR-1s are the only VS I have, but in that room, they are phenomenal. I don't believe the size of the VR-2s will be the limiting factor. It will depend on the spl you want to listen at. The room nodes will be there regardless of the speakers, because that is a function of the room itself. It sounds as though you will be rather close to the speakers (near-field) and for that reason smaller monitor speakers may image better. Even better might be single driver designs or very efficient speakers. There is alot of talk on this forum about the Zu line. Its hard to know until you try. Have fun!
Dlwask ; You think that the VR2's are too big ? Have you tried them ? I did not find them to have nearly as much base as the jr.'s . Has any one else tried the VR2's in a room of this size ?

Bgrazman : I actually auditioned the Gallo Ref. 3.1 at the same time as the VS. I really wanted to like them . But I could not . They seemed quite congested and did not have any detail . The shop owner stated that they probably had 400 or 500 hours on them . They were driven by a Cary 50 watt hybrid amp and a CJ Pre as were the VS.'s .

Tgrisham ; What do you think that you have lost with the VR1's as compared to the larger VR2's or the JR.'s ?

I forgot to mention that my room is carpeted , contains an overstuffed leather chair, a leather foot stool , one low dresser and some 8th Nerve room treatments . I am presently using Soliloquy 6.2i floor standers with good results . I am looking for more resolution , hense the change .

Any one else ?
They will probably overpower your room and you will end up hearing more room modes and less of these speakers true potential. I have had alot of success with the PMC LB1 in this room size. A monitor type 2 way would be a better field to look in given the size you stated.
I had the same issue with a room 10' x 13' with vaulted ceilings and a bookshelf on the long wall. I liked the sound of the VS so much that I got the VR-1s and added an REL sub. I love the soundstaging and the high frequencies are excellent.
room size is why i didn't go with the 4jr's. Ended up with Gallo Ref 3's in an 11X12.
That room is most likely too small for the VR2s or the VR4jrs. Firing them down the diagonal is the right thing to do but in that room you'll probably never realize their full potential.

Try some quality two way monitors for an in home audition if you can.
