Admittedly, I have modded and damped more Klipsch models (mostly Heritage) than I care to remember. However, many other horn brands needed it to, such as JBL and Altec. Ringing/resonances from the horns/woofer frames; other resonances and distortions from the cabinets; outdated crossover components (lets be real, any speaker) and minimizing contact between the crossover boards and the cabinets. Yes, all of this takes a great design by the master, PWK, and eliminates the drawbacks of economic production costs. I am a Klipsch devotee!
Volti audio upgrades for klipschorns
I bought a pair of Klipschorns in 1982' in 2018. I did a complete voting audio replacement. In addition to converting to tubes. The replacement was more than I could believe. I will not go back. the increase in quality was more than I could have believed. I would highly recommend this conversion.

The biggest issue with Klipsch is that they are charging absolutely absurd prices for cheaper parts. MDF is cheaper wood than good quality plywood. They literally doubled their prices even when corrected for inflation. This is typical corporate mentality, probably because of Voxx International. Nothing wrong with running a business, but after PWK passed, it just more business oriented. Take a Crites Cornscala for example. They use better components like Apple ply for the cabinets with bracing and only charge about 3k. Klipsch charges more than double for a Cornwall IV and use much cheaper parts, not to mention in bulk which cuts costs even further. To make matters worse, they just triple downed and raised their prices again. Volti uses excellent quality components and yes they charge more, but in my opinion, you get genuine quality parts. Same thing with Shinjitsu Audio who also uses excellent components. Klipsch is mostly a marketing company now. |
Absurd pricing is kind of relative, don't you think? Klipsh's top speaker, the Jubilee, is by most accounts no slouch. It is priced just under 40K. Compared to most of the higher end lines, that is a laughably low price. I'm not a Klipsh fan boy and I've never owned a pair. But someday I might, and I wouldn't be embarrassed to have them. |
I've listened to the Jubilees, twice. I found a dealer who was willing to deal and had the money in hand and the room to put them in. I own a cheap pair of Speakerlab corner horns with some decent components powering them. Maybe it was the dealers class d amps, his bluesound node, his room I don't know but his Jubilees couldn't touch my $500 SLs. All I know is I wanted to love the Jubilees but I didn't even like them. |

Klipsch isn't building their heritage to price points at all. They've already doubled their prices? The hate comes from excessive pricing while lowering the quality of parts. You don't use cheaper parts and increase prices, you increase prices because you are improving parts. They're just doubling down. |
