good info to know Bob, thanks for sharing.  I wish he had a powered version as that's what I'm thinking about doing for my bedroom system. I have my Linn Kiko system up for sale, but I'm not sure I should sell it as it really does do everhtign from switching the video to streaming via it's app. Looks awesome adn sound pretty good.
I asked Johnny and he said since they weren't for critical listening, it wouldn't be worth the expense.-Especially as they are mounted near the ceiling, and I am listening almost underneath them.
I have to say they are very listenable, and still present a nice stage despite my poor placement/seatiing,

I can't wait to hear the CT's. I wonder how much of a difference there will be.  I"m sure it will be huge, but we are lucky as he makes such great speakers that even other models sound great still and ar ea value.  I've gone to listen to a lot of under 2k speakers lately and have been disappointed a bit.
i decided to keep mine as well instead of getting a newer pair CT VLR`s. they sound fantastic and work well were i have them.
I ended up with the non CT VLR's and am extremely happy with my choice.
I was using a pair of Zu Omen Bookshelf before. The difference is amazing.
The VLR's are paired with a pair of HSU subs (I forget the model).
I was going to use my old 2w subs, but my recently upgraded McCormack Micro Power Drives(made into monoblocks) gave me issues with impedance settings. So, I reinserted the HSU. I have to say the match is a good one. Well, good enough for my office-
Bob
Older thread. I wonder what folks have done or will do. I"m actually going to put my Linn Kiko system I referenced earlier, up for sale tonight.
I think with the sub 9's it would be fascinating, lol.....sub 3's just a musical full range little system for smaller rooms.  How awesome is that???!!!! lol...I agree on the subs as you know ;)....  Typically you want a nice overlap of sub and sat to integrate properly.  Sub integration has come a long way though since they became so popular some years ago.  Richard does it as well as anyone I've heard to date.
@gcknapp my acquire VLR CT with soundanchor stands plan got submarined by a pair of ancient Quad ESL-63 that i am refurbishing....

I could make an attempt to borrow a set of the VLR and stands and provide some comparison to the Treo CT, doubtful I could get the sub 3 at same time tho.....now that would be fascinating....but also quite room and musical taste dependant.....imo most music does not really require a true subwoofer...that is probably a seperate thread.....
Has anyone auditioned or purchased the VLR CT yet?  Very anxious to a/b against my standard VLRs.
same here.  That's cool if so.  Also, awesome about the CT version of the VLF.  That's really cool if that's teh speaker for you.
Maybe they went to the guy asking for setup help ?
i hope so
i love the idea that somebody who appreciates music lucked into a fantastic set of speakers !!!!!

I see that guy had button for "make offer" but no "buy it now". My thinking is he may have gotten more than his asking price of $7490.
Ah nuts!
I was just about to get a pair. Now, I have to decide if I need to spend $3K.
Bob
no kidding...that is either a scam or desperate for $$$ sale
well lets hope for the latter and that someone scored an incredible deal on Quattro.

yes Pete CT now going into a VLR signature !!!!!!
Saw a guy on A'gon selling a pair of like new Quattro Wood Ct's in Mahogany walnut (along with crossovers) for $7490. Man, those went fast!!!!
@ctsooner I guess I will race ya - model 1ci going to brother in law....so there will be an empty hole to fill in the “therapy room”

I have a small Linn Kiko system in the bedroom.  Looks' great, but it's a built in and the design of the speakers doesn't work.  I have a feeling that I will just sell the Kiko and then get the new VLR's with one of the small integrated amps and call it a day.  I haven't heard these in years now, but have plenty of friends who swear by them, especially for the price.
Vandersteen advises the VLR CT is now available, with a 3 week wait time.  $3075 for a pair.  Awaiting word on finishes and specs.
Thanks Tim for the info on the tweeters, i have no doubt they are fantastic and worth every penny, its just my wallet may have to wait a bit.
drumsgreg,

When I bought my Treo Ct's a few years ago, RV told me a pair of those carbon tweeters were $1400 per pair. At the time, he was making those tweeters himself, by hand. Said he could make one pair a day. Also consider that the VLR cabinet has to be built with the same type of inside/outside cabinet of the Quattro CT and Treo CT. Which translates into a lot of work and attention to detail for the VLR's. This type of cabinet suppresses cabinet resonances to the extent that the 2 Ce sig. 2 and 3A sigs cannot, hence the reason the carbon tweeter isn't used in these speakers. The carbon tweeter would almost be wasted in them for this very reason, and THAT is why you will not see it in either of these floor standers.
Cheers,
Tim
tomic601, thank you for the info on these. i was hoping they would be around 2000.00 for the pair. The little WOODS are kicking some serious butt with the twin 2WQ`s. the new ones would have to be really really great for me to step up!

@drumsgreg

looks like a dealer unamed has a pair to evaluate....RV says they sound fantastic....
$3225 the pair
unknown release date

so what I think would be killer is

start with those and a pair of Sound Anchor or other nuclear attack survivable non resonant stand... later add a Sub 3 and then eventually another.... and you have a system with both Treo and Quattro attributes at less $ or slightly more in case of Treo....

wow, cool.....

and per Swarm-Tim keep adding subs until your spouse kills ya or you reach Bass Nirvana ( note these events may occur simultaneously )
Any word on the new VLR wood with the carbon tweeter? i may get a pair of those as soon as they are released .
cool, so great you are enjoying....i have heard them on a lowly Bluesound powernode ROCK !!!!!!!!

my guess is they will be my #4 Vandy......
My VLRs keep opening up.  Four inches from side and rear walls.  Just amazing, expansive, honest sound.  Adding a Bryston BDP-pi to replace Airport Express into my Hegel DAC.  Highly recommended!
I’m using Hegel H-80 integrated amplifier, puts out 75 watts into 8 ohms.  Plenty of power, in my opinion.

Please keep us posted as the speakers break in. I've been very intrigued about these speakers. What electronics are you using to drive them? The specs seem to suggest they need good bit of power to come alive.
these speakers rock, i finally hooked up my 2WQ subs and it takes this little system to another level. these are great sounding little speakers. question... are these upgradeable to the signature or is that a new speaker form Vandersteen.
Just set up and did very preliminary audition.  Great soundstage and articulation, even at low volume levels. Hearing things in familiar recordings unheard previously.  Doing a burn-in for a couple days, then will report back with further observations.  First class service and recommend from John Rutan at Audio Connection.  Highly recommended, very patient and responsive to many queries.
i seriously doubt it, i think the only retained component would be the cabinet.....but.. ?

not that I know anything..but.....IF I was laying out a VLR -Sig it would have

carbon tweeter
DBS crossover

and a VLR-7x

cabinet within cabinet stealth CF enclosure with less frontal area
Carbon both drivers
DBS filter
biwire
maybe an integral HRS coordinated stand....

they would not be inexpensive.....
The new signature model will have a carbon tweeter.  I am unaware of the current model will be upgradeable to carbon tweeter.

Getting my VLRs from John Rutan this week.  Going with the current model and will upgrade to carbon tweeter model as budget/desire presents itself.  Will report back with observations once they settle in.

i sent an email to them and i received the same reply, no info until a month or so from now.

Vandersteen advises pricing and release date tbd.  Should have info early next month.

No and no.  Going to check with Mr. Vandersteen on release date.  I’ll let you know when he responds.
gcknapp, did the rep say when theses would be ready and did they have a pair at AXPONA?
i bet that a pair of the new VLR with carbon tweeter on Sound Anchor stands and flat to 4 somthing cycles will be giant killers.....
ha
big fun

Vandersteen rep at AXPONA said to expect a forthcoming VLR Signature model with carbon tweeter like the Treo.  May wait for upgrade model to a/b before final purchase decision.  Significant increase in price, however.
Good read on the VLRs.. thank you...
How do the VLRs a foot away from walls in terms of bass, are you missing a lot under 100hz? and are they directional like something like magnepan or do they have good dispersion?
Thanks...
gcknapp.....great choice going with Senor Rutan’s advice.  I got mine from Music Direct.  Open box/demo pair.  If I was closer to John, no brainer.  Either will take good care of you.  Best and keep us posted.  PM me if you want.

Regards,
David

Greg,
Going to go with John Rutan.  He has provided great feedback and answers to my queries.  Hope he still has a demo pair by the time my Silverline and REL sells.  Thanks so much.

David,
Where did you get your VLRs?  I’m shooting for a demo or return pair, at or below $1000.
