V-Cap ODAM Capacitor Upgrade in VTL 2.5i Pre?

I recently purchased a VTL 2.5i Preamp that I am considering upgrading with V-Cap ODAM caps. I really like the VTL sound, but am wondering if I can maximize it further. Has anyone upgraded their VTL with higher end caps or ODAMs specifically?

Of course, like many audiophile I sometimes sell gear to try something new. Does anyone have experience upgrading components like caps and then reselling gear? If so, would you expect this to impact resale significantly?

Can't offer anything on specific question, but I've been modifying my own equipment for decades, never had a problem selling at market rates or above. I assume some perceive mods as detrimental to sound quality and/or value, others just the opposite. I wouldn't let resale value deter you.

I'd expect the Odams could provide nice improvement in sq, caps are one of the more effective upgrades. Odams have plenty of nice reviews, I'd have no qualms about using if I had the need.

Thanks for the feedback! is reassuring to hear.

I often find myself in a struggle between trying to develop the maximum soundstage and micro-details VS maintaining richness in tone and life in the music. Too much of one and you seem to lose the other. I have heard the ODAMs are good at striking some balance there.

I used to have that same preamp. Better caps will help the sonics but doubt you'll get your money back. May want to consider sticking with copper foil caps though. Believe the ODAMS are metalized film. At some point though you may want to consider upgrading the pre to a 5.5 or 6.5.

@johnss thanks for your throughs! Are you thinking copper foil would be better because it tends to have a warmer sound?

I’ve used VCaps in my preamp - they are super neutral but take a very long time to break in. If you have a cable cooker, you can shorten the time needed, but until you have at least 100 hours, it will sound thin or have a glare, then it settles down.

I did not opt for VCaps in my amps, choosing the Mundorf Silver/Gold Foil oil caps. They had a shorter break in period and sounded a tad dark at first until settling in after 50 hours. They have a rich lush sound that I enjoy.
