I'm in NJ and haven't experienced any delays from USPS Priority, UPS, Fedex Ground or USPS reg mail service. Maybe i've been fortunate. Without any notices i would expect delays knowing the dangerous work conditions our Postal and delivery workers are faced with. I commend every US Postal Worker and shipping worker for continuing to do their best handeling our mail and packages when their health/life is at risk. I'm glad to hear of such delays knowing that precautions are being taken. Is anyone in dissagreement with such delays? There is a tracking # or delivery confirmation that should show that the seller did ship. Simple follow thru should make the buyer feel more comfortable and understanding. Anyone who sells an item should take responsibility while the item is in transit and follow thru and ck to make sure the item arrives in stated cond to the buyer. This is what insurance is for. This is why the shipping companies offer different types of service. We are at War with terrorist and the enemy is in our backyard. At present our mail is targeted. Postal Workers have died while others were infected with Anthrax. Anyone complaining about delays with the Postal Service etc has got to have better understanding and be more concerned about the brave people risking their lives to deliver your packages. |
As a letter carrier for the U.S.P.S. I must say I am very pleased to see that the majority of people in wich contributed to this forum are understanding.
In the early 80's an average of 16 packages contianing bombs were sent via airplane undetected. Due to the increase of torrorist threats durring the Regan era,the usps implemented a system to better insure the saftey of airline travel. And it worked. We as the employees of the usps ar tought to look for specific criteria to identify "target mail". As of last year the no. of bombs shipped via usps undetected (inspite of a record 242 billion pieces of mail) was only 2.
However, no one was fully preparred for the events on 9/11 or those that followed. But we at the postal service w/ the help of the postal inspection service are concentrating on getting things back to normal w/ out jepardizing the saftey of our customers. DAmon aka husband of 2001 impala |
Your Post Office's receipt for the package should show time and date they received it and all pertinent info such as insurance and delivery tracking numbers as well as the ship to zip code. Perhaps you can scan and email your buyer a copy of it to assure them that you have done all that is within your control. If that still doesn't satisfy them, then they have more problems than a delayed shipment. |
Sarah, I live in DC and have not received any mail in the last 2 days. I don't know when I'll see it again, the main mail sort facility here is closed for 2 weeks. Tell your buyer to hang in there, it's just life after 9/11. |
Everyone needs to be patient. Not only are things taking longer but companies like UPS are not scanning some of their packages. Their web-site show's one of my packages in transit, stuck at the Canadian boarder in NY. It just arrived this mourning at my house in California. Another UPS package shipped two days ago hasen't posted to their web-site yet.
Three items I shipped to various parts of the country USPS Priority have been taking a heck of a lot longer then 3 days to get there.
One more complaint and then I'll shut up. I'm waiting on an amp from Canada. I fear to think how long that will take to arrive. Just remember it could be a hell of a lot worse. What if the terroist had done a mass mailer. Can you imagine? Take care:~) |
Kinda sad that some people have priorities and attitudes that didn't change following events that will forever change our country as well as the world. Just "keep on smilin'"! It's unfortunate that some people can be such self-centered turds! |
The delays seem to have begun even earlier in the Washington DC area... On the 8th of October, I mailed a check from Arlington, Virginia (just outside Washington, DC) to an ebay seller in North Carolina which wasn't received until the 16th ... resulting in negative feedback and substantial bad feelings between us. In times like these it seems all of us should exercise a degree of tolerance and not be so quick on the trigger ... I think most people are trying to give it their best.......... |
Sarah, I have done business with you numerous times with no problems. Times are different now after the 9/11 incident and now anthrax. The buyer should be more patient about the situation. Parcels usually take a little longer than regular mail in envelopes from my personal experience. Please invite the buyer to contribute to this forum and he'll know he's not alone in this situation. We all are.
Good luck!

I noticed US Post Office deliveries to be slower than normal this summer and that was before 9/11/01. People need to be sensitive to the events taking place in our country and the world, patience is crucial. Since 9/11 if you ship out an item UPS the box must be unsealed so they can check the content. If it's a sealed package you are going to have to open it for inspection. That's just the way things are going to be, purchaser be understanding! |
You are not in this alone. I sent Lorne Cherry ( in Canada ) some cables a quite while back and they've never shown up yet. Those have probably gone the way of the wind. Then there was a remote control that was shipped to me. The seller, who lives in Pennsylvania, forgot to pack it in the box and sent it via the postal service. That one seems to have disappeared. I also sent payment out via priority mail to another member here ( Nice_Tom who lives in Cali ) and it took well over a week to show up. Keep in mind that i live near Chicago, so it is affecting EVERYONE EVERYWHERE.
As such, we need to take this into consideration when making transactions. If the person doubts your word as to when it was shipped, there is such a thing as a postmarked date on the package. Once the post office gets it, there is NOTHING that you or anyone else can do about it. Sean > |
Hi again Sarah, ask the buyer to call the Head Postmaster at his local PO for an explanation. Maybe he doesn't have a tuner, no TV & doesn't read the paper. I drive for a mail contract carrier & for everybodys information, any post office is subject to shutdown at a moments notice. It happened yesterday at a facility our company deals with multiple times on a daily basis. The mail has to be rerouted to another sorting facility & of course this delays everything except express. Express is still guaranteed. Good luck! |
I'm awaiting the shipping from Toronto to NY and it's already been more than 2 weeks with UPS?
Maybe not only USPS got "Anthraxed"? |
Sarah is not alone, I sent priority mail/delivery confirmation payment to seller in Honolulu, HI (I live in Ohio) usually takes 4-5 days and just got to him in 10 days. Agree that for now it probably best to use Fed-X or UPS.
USPS workers are doing a heroic job showing up for work everyday considering the circumstances! |
Sarah,
I dont think you have any reason the have to feel responsible for the delay, and if the seller is upset at you, this is someone who I would not want to do business with at any point in the future.
I have been waiting, possibly rather naively, for a record clamp sent from Brazil over 4 weeks ago. The seller who has 5+ feedbacks and has contributed in forums here, appears to be on the up and up, but who knows?
Should I blame him or myself, for not realizing that mail theft from Brazil is fairly common? I had a choice to pass on the deal and went forward, buyer beware I say.
In my past deal with you, you were one of the most responsive quik shippers Ive dealt with, thanks for the heads up on unavoidable mail delays. |
