That was I guess Mike Matthews who bought the Svetlana factory and renamed it Electro Harmonics (EH) to supply the guitar amp market. Good move! However with madman Putin on the warpath it looks like no more of those tubes will be available!
Tube shortage was the subject of an NPR report yesterday.
I was listening to NPR radio yesterday when they interviewed a US based guitar amp manufacturer who bought a Russian tube factory years ago to guarantee it would stay in business. They did mention the Russian tube embargo had just ended and also talked about Western Electric opening a new US tube factory.
I did have to laugh a little at the reporter’s description of tubes as sort of lightbulb.
