I'm thinking about changing preamps. I've always used SS electronics(Spectral) and recently changed amps and would like to hear from others if they have had any success matching up a Rowland Model 8 with a great tube preamp.
I REALLY LIKE MY CAT SIGNATURE WITH MY MODEL 8. IMHO THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, TUBE IN THE PRE-AMP AND SS IN THE AMP STAGE. IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY, TRY THE CAT SIG'S OR THE ULTIMATE, I THINK YOU WILL LIKE THE MATCH.
a good point to remember about the Rowland amplifiers is their input impedance is adjustable to facilitate better matching between the preamp and amplifier.
Check out LAMM, airtight and BAT, I know of more then a few folks who prefer Rowland amps using the single ended inputs which would leave BAT out of contention(on the VK-5 and VK-50 models only), however YMMV, what works for one persons system may not work for anothers. Seeing as your working with a good amp there shouldn't be much of a problem getting it to sound good, Cheers! Tim
