Transparent interconnect Cable, Super versus ultra

Anybody ever compare these two transparent interconnectS?

I was thinking of upgrading from super to ultra which is about twice the price. Being used to connect a preamplifier line stage to an amplifier.

I am a 22+ year owner of various Transparent cable levels. I concur the jump from Super to Ultra is quite noticeable, especially when going to Gen 6.

What I noticed immediately what appears to be more bottom end, and better overall separation across the entire frequency range. I use both speaker and interconnect for analog connections.

As far as upgrade I have always been given a resonable trade in when going up from one series to the next. Try calling them or work with your local dealer which is what I always did. Do not remember the exact percentage but I think it is around 70% of what you originally paid plus the difference from one series to the next.

Also, I think Ultra may be the point of diminishing returns but I was honestly blow away by the improvement and expectation bias does not factor in. The difference is easily heard even by casual enthusiasts.

They have a trade in policy. But when I have inquired the discount was so low, I just chose to keep them for my secondary systems or experimenting. I have not inquired about adjacent models.

Anyone know if Transparent has a good trade in policy? About to try out a Super phono cable may want to compare Ultra..

I do not use Transparent in my home theater. That is a whole different thing. It does not require the resolution of my audio system. They would not be worth it to me.

I think my preamp to amp run is around 16’.

My older components would not sound good with Ultra, I drove very revealing ribbon speakers with solid state gear. Transparent’s Schlick is transparency… passing on exactly what it gets…. You get no tuning. Today, I want to hear my components… there is nothing harsh or trebly about them.

Comparing them to Cardas which is always warm an calming… the lower the cost Cardas the more calming. Hence, why they are so popular… they cover up deficiencies. Transparent does not. Each level up is the same only lower noice floor, better dynamics, and bass.

Ghdprentice,

Notice you don’t use ultra in your home theater set up.

Thanks for info. If I bought ultra I would use a 10 foot length between a preamp, cj gat2 and macintosh 600 watt monos, amp is connected to b&w 802 d3’s with transparent Super CableS. Interested In Any thoughts on this?

You made interesting comments about you’re older components being too bright. Would Those components have been a good mix with ultra?

Yes, the Ultra is worth the upgrade. Go for it!

Happy Listening!

Yes. As in all of audio, it depends on your equipment. Ultra is a significant improvement in my system over Super.

I have done two major system upgrades over the last 12 years. I got rid of the components causing excessive high frequency hash and too much treble allowing me to incorporate really transparent wires. So I dropped in older Transparent and some newer Super… then slowly swapped out for contemporary Ultra. Through conversations with my dealer And my experience. The contemporary Ultra are a very significant improvement over earlier generations and models.

I am very happy with my Ultra. My system is shown under my ID.
