I did not, but could be interesting. I have the Townshend Pod products only.

Well I have owned the Star Sound Sistrum and Townshend Pod products and have heard first hand the differences each approach has to the resulting sound. Speakers on a hard wood floor with crawl space under the house. The Star Sound Sistrum platforms were great. They tended to spotlight the highs and upper mids while speeding up and tightening the bass. Improved focus and inner detail. Less blurring of massed instruments.
The Townshend Pod products removed noise and made the music sound much more at ease and enjoyable. More natural if you will. They made the music more fun to listen to in my experience. That is how I experienced both methods of “isolation”. Just my experience and I realize this topic is more complex than my singular experience. |
Yes they are and keep enjoying them! Just different flavors of great tasting ice cream. Often comes down to personal preference and system/room synergy. Many variables as we know. |
But as owners consistently say, we love how they make our systems sound. What else is more important here? |
Well said Charles. Both products help the speakers disappear as said above. I have Dali Epicon 6 speakers with upgraded crossover components. |
@audiopoint, Yes, we are now in the Nashville area and loving it. Also, The Audiophile’s Wife is seriously considering writing again. If fact, we are contemplating a shared site where we sell audio cables and she hosts her blog as well as other fun antics. I did have some Apprentice platrforms in my rig here for a season. The speakers I used them under were the Acoustic Zen Crescendo and my current Dali speakers which I have had for some 4-5 years now. Always liked the sound of your products and that Energy Room you built for Andrew is a listening experience I will never forget. Never! Just a sensory delight. Even the sound of my own voice was startling in that room.

I agree with Tvad’s comments. Also, we really don’t know when MC started down the road of being a dealer. Being enthusiastic about a product and later working for that same company is really not an issue. It makes sense actually. Being passionate about the quality of a product line is an important part of selling it. The only question that remains is when did he start the process of going from happy customer to rep. Yes, MC detractors will suggest it happened on his first purchase, but that is highly unlikely.
|
Ok then MC. I better understand your perspective on this. Yes, your evaluations are accurate, no doubt. Seems pretty reasonable to let folks know, when you actually knew, that you are entering a financial relationship with Townshend. What can possibly be wrong with that? |
MC if you’re not a Townshend dealer, then I apologize. I understood you are now? I guess I am confused by your posts. Sorry. |
MC, I also wish you all the best on this endeavor. I continue to buy new products from Townshend. Love them. You would be wise to consider the advice and wisdom of reasoned posters here and humble yourself. When ALL posts, without exception, suggest it would have been wise to update the forum on your new relationship, it’s time to slow down and realize the truth of it. When everyone else is wrong, haters and lovers alike, and you’re the only one right, then you know it’s time to reconsider your thoughts on this matter. |
I have only purchased through John Hannant and find he is very responsive. |
I placed Townshend Pods under my integrated amp and dac yesterday. ( Mojo Audio Evo dac & Circle Labs A200 int amp) Really enjoying the sonic improvement over IsoAcoustics products. Putting the tech arguments to the side for a moment, these Townshend products just work and help my system sound so beautiful and engaging. I have used many other footers and consider these a step above based on my joy of listening to the results. At least in my system and to my ears. They do in fact deliver the sonic goods even as we argue over marketing videos, technical approaches and wade through a sea of off topic posts.
I also use Townshend under my speakers.

@facten
I will respond to you more fully once I listen more. If you do not have the five upgraded and very heavy Lundahl chokes, then the 4 A Pods are best. My early impressions are the Pods sound more balanced top to bottom, have a better sense of ease and natural tone, and are more open sounding. The IsoAcoustics sound a tad bit lite up in the highs in comparison. Brighter if you will. |
@tvad
I have not tried those. I have long been interested in the HRS couplers.
I have 5 B Pods under my Circle Labs A200 Int Amp. They are 2 inches in height. Amp weights 44 pounds.
I have 4 B Pods under my Mojo Audio Evo dac. They are almost 2.5 inches high. Dac weights 32 pounds.
Townshend recommends at least 30% compression and I have that on my amp, not sure on my dac. I may try 3 under my dac and hear what happens. I adjusted the Pods up on the heavy side of the dac to level. I have heavy Lundahl chokes on that side.
It took some time to level the units which are weight loaded to one side/end with transformers. This is why I have 5 Pods under my A200. Kind of a hassle compared to other footers to be frank, but I got it done.
All on a 225 pound Sound Anchors 4 foot stand. |
Update. I placed three B Pods under the dac. Two under the heavy side with the trannys and chokes and one on the lighter side. Now the Pods are just under 2 inches high meeting the 30% compression rule.
The unit now moves more freely when touched. I will work with John and perhaps try 4 A Pods instead. The 1.75-2.0 inch compressed height is ideal.
The Pods measure 2.87 inches in height when uncompressed. 30% compression puts it just right at 2 inches high. They can be adjusted up close to a 1/2 inch for leveling and still keep the 30% compression rule. I would not recommend adjusting them up 1/2 inch as the adjusting bolt is almost completely out at this point and the top cap is a bit wobbly to the touch when not in place. I would think a 1/4 inch max upward adjustment is more reasonable. |
Sure. You don’t understand nor have any direct experience with Townshend under electronics, so in the end your comments fit that “pigs wings” statement more accurately. This gets so tiresome. This should be a place to share actual experiences, not a place to deposit a turd in the punch bowl. You don’t possess all knowledge on this topic, nobody does, and have no direct experience with this. Why the turd?
I don’t often speak out against your sort of post, but it is getting so tiresome and ruining this site. Your comment is in no way helpful. |
@prof
Your experience with Townshend is yours alone. Share specifically how they were used etc… When you do this we all benefit. Nothing in audio is absolute. A product works wonderfully in one situation and not another for a host of reasons, some understood and some not.
The attitude behind a post, how something is said, is very important. If something did not work for you, but does for me there is no reason for you, or other tag along posters who have not even tried the product, to speculate negatively about another person or experience.
Again, there are no absolutes here as the variables at play are too numerous and divergent. Readers here will learn from the aggregate of poster experiences shared on this forum.
I was wrong about your actual experience with these footers under electronics and apologize for that. I am always interested in all user experiences, both positive and negative, on a given product. This is precisely why this forum can be very helpful. |
It is also important to remember, wether golden ears, a chef, or even a sound professional, we are each unique and can hear things differently. We have subjective sonic preferences and particular auditory sensitivities that cause us to focus in on certain aspects of sound and tone. It is easy to understand why one person appreciates a subtle sonic difference while another misses it completely. An acute sonic sensitivity/preference can be at play. Many other subtle mind/ear scenarios are at play that I certainly don’t understand.
I guess the longer I live as an audiophile and music lover the more I understand and leave room for our varying experiences with the same tweaks and equipment. For example, I suffer from a little tinnitus that can be triggered by certain gear and systems. Townshend Pod products under both my speakers and gear have allowed me to actually turn up the volume more without triggering my tinnitus. Fun to listen at these louder levels from time to time. I could not do this with other footers in place. This alone makes the Pods a great addition for me that someone else would miss entirely. This is but one single example of our auditory differences and sensitivities.

Same experience here with Gaia’s. I liked them better than spikes, but the Townshend Pods were a substantial level beyond the Gaia’s. Townshend helped my speakers disappear and gave my system a wonderful sense of ease that the Gaia’s could not match. |
