Tony Bennett has passed away

Big loss.  We not only have lost a great singer, but also one of music’s greatest ambassadors. RIP Tony

Best show I saw him at:

Tony Bennett, Elvis Costello and Count Basie and his orchestra at the Red Parrot in NYC around 1985! RIP Tony.

Wow. Tony Bennett and Count Basie go together like bacon and eggs.  Not that I dislike Elvis, but how did he fit in?

Definitely a historically great performer, and someone who seemed to genuinely appreciate the song, and the composers.  A great great singer.

What a great one.

I was listening to Heather Bambrick at Jazz.FM and she mentioned that he thought Amy Winehouse would become one of the great Jazz vocalists... and how sad he was that he couldn't help her more.

Don't we all.

Having seen him perform multiple times over the decades, he never disappointed, and was always always respectful of the song.  Great is too small a description.

I was really sad and disappointed when his wife allowed him to be "highlighted" on some show, maybe CNN, maybe Sixty Minutes a few years back.  I thought Tony had so much self-respect, and it was always on display, that if he were consciously aware of what was taking place he would have been horrified.

i agree

aside from the awesome talent and longevity, probably the greatest thing about tony b was his effortess natural class at being just a wonderful human being

see any interview or interaction he engaged in... we can all learn how to carry ourselves from how he did
