Depends on the room. A couple of subs can work wonders balancing out a room

So a new step forward in my journey to Xanadu. I have decided to buy new speakers and upon careful consideration have chosen to experience Von Schweikert. A pair of VR4 JR are on the way. They will be replacing my Dali Opticon 8.
If the new speakers are rated to a lower output than the subs I have, does it make the subs obsolete except in HT applications?

Agree with @timlub I found that measuring the room with a mic revealed a number of issues with bass for which the subs supplied indispensable help. |
I don't know @wrm57 but the caves of ice do wonders for low frequency. |
