Thanks A LOT…
Tannoy or Volti
I have a friend who has the Tannoy Prestige GRF 90 for sale he is moving out of the country for half price, he paid $29000 in around 2020 not made in China. I am upgrading my Forte IVs, I am also considering the Volti audio Lucera…anyone that has heard the Tannoy and any other suggestions which will be better would be appreciated….I have a few first watt amps and several tube amps…plus Jeff Rowland and Pass Labs amps..

@kennyc There is a Devore dealer 30 minutes from me…they usually have the O/baby set up, anything more expensive they won’t get them in unless you pay in full with no audition time.. will the O/baby be a good example? |
The O/baby is new so I haven’t demoed, but this Stereophile here says Sonics is similar house sound. The Devore O/96 dealer believes that while the O/93 sounds great very good, the O/96 is significantly sonically better in which I agree. Likely the same O/96 vs O/baby. So no, the O/baby may not be good enough to understand the O/96 Sonics, but it may be good enough to hear the Devore Orangutan house sound and if you like then track down a O/96 to demo Side note- in addition to my high powered speakers, I’m also using the 100 Volti Rival to discover tube amp magic including flea watt amps down to 2wpc. As the Volti is clear/neutral, I’d like to get a pair of the musical O/96s. Then I can try tube amps on both - what fun! Unfortunately, I don’t have the storage space …yet

For the $15K price point is has to be Yamaha NS-5000 designed by pro audio engineers. Visit the Yamaha Innovation Road museum in Hamamatsu, Japan and observe consumer audio's modest position inside the world's largest producer of musical instruments, and a household name in other durable goods. The back wave absorbers look like tumble generators. The wood cabinet is basically a simple side job for their piano shop. As former serial users of toxic, brittle beryllium tweeters, they developed carbon fiber to get out of the beryllium business. They leveraged the carbon fiber for all drivers, for a single driver sound. Just move quickly to avoid the tariffs. |
