711smilin, please let us know what Synergistic power cables you get from Synergistic and give us a review.
Leica_man, please give us a review of your upgrade to Apex and what differences did you encounter going up the Synergistic line. |
I'm not sure when this went up but... have you guys seen the new Quantum Tunneling video on SR's website? Now that's what I call a cable cooker!
http://www.synergisticresearch.com/index.php?PageID=191 |
I will next week, I am impatiently waiting....ughhhh |
I've heard rumors of a radical new line of Tesla power cords just around the corner- does anyone know anything specific? |
Joey, thanks for the input. I will give the Prec Ref a try as well. |
Sounds good. Except for those big speakers you will need the Precision Reference speaker cables. The Acoustic R's will not be enough to drive them. The Precision R's have better/tighter bass response, bigger soundstage and even better pin-point imaging. If you can try both and see for yourself. But if you dont want to cut corners go for the Precision R's on speakers. |
oh thanks Joey. There is indeed more info. Very helpful. I am going to audition the Acoustic Ref speaker cables with the Apex interconnect between my sources and preamp and Precision Ref between my amp and pre. What do you think of this combo? |
OK, maybe I'm a little late and you already been to the site and read the descriptions. But since the last time I visited the site they didnt have any descriptions for Accelerator, Acoustic Reference, Precision Reference speaker cables and some of the I/C. Now that information is on the site. I agree with all their descriptions about their products. Go in and clink on each product on their speaker cables and interconnect tabs at the top of their home page. |
joey, what information are you referring to? I just checked the site and I did not see any additional cable selecting information. Am I missing something? |
More information was added to the Synergistic Research web site about their new Tesla cables. Having demo just about all of them, I have to agree with their recommendations on mixing and matching. |
UPDATE2: The Accelerators are very very good BUT...I'm planning on upgrading to:
Apex CDP to PRE Precision Reference PRE to AMP Precision Reference to speakers
These cables are nothing like I ever heard before. Here are some of my comments: very transparnt, quick & snappy, giant/deep soundstage, texture & layers, sounds 3-D & round, just enough black background, romantic midrange, super tight & detailed bass, treble very smooth & pleasing...exciting.
All the previous reviews were very accurate in this tread. Thank you everyone for replying. Enjoy the music, I know I will. ;-) |
Which dealer in the Southeast region has the best demo / selection capability? |
I've been posting this in the Gabriel Gold thread. Most think this is heresy, but my system sounds so good now that I see no need to change until I get around to upgrading my amp. I am using a SR Tesla in between my pre and my amp, and Gabriel Gold Revelations between my sources and the pre. The sound is pehnomenal. The GG's have quite a more robust extension in the frequency extremes and a richer tone, but the SR Teslas have better imaging. They seem to complement each other very well. |
Blcube, I'm using the Precision Reference I/C now on PRE to AMP. Improvements over the Accelerator are: pin point accuracy of the soundstage, higher resolution and more layering, and improved treble accuracy. I'm trying Precision Reference speaker cables Thursday.
Audphile1, did you demo the Acoustic Reference speaker cable? It is much better than the Accelerator and cost the same as the Purist AA's you bought. Everything you found lacking in the Accelerator is present in the Acoustic Reference. It may be worth a demo with The Cable Company for you. |
Joe,that`s what I was trying to suggest to you.Instead of changeing speakers cables, move up line with your interconnects. And the Acoustic are excellent (WOW) |
UPDATE: I currently have all Accelerators in my system. CDP to PRE, PRE to AMP and AMP to speakers (XLRs and spades). I borrowed an Acoustic Reference to try on my CDP to PRE. WOW! What a compliment to the Accelerators. It maintains all the qualities of the Accelerator like the wonderful transparency but presented a warmer & more liquid midrange, tighter & more defined bass. The music is not as forward (a good thing in my system). The music is more even. The quickness was reduced a tad from the effect of the Accelerators to more musical pace. The treble is not as hot or excessive it's a little more relaxed but very clear and detailed. Very interesting. I almost sure I will trade in an Accelerator for the Acoustic Reference on CDP to PRE.
Next I'm trying a Precision Reference on PRE to AMP and I will report my findings. These cables are addictive and compliment each other when mixing and matching.
I would like to thank The Cable Company for lending me all these cables to try. Excellent service and people, I highly recommend them.
I hope Ted D. gets more information on their web-site soon!

Joeyboyni, the phono cable that I bought form CC is one of the Tesla Series of cables and is named, Tricon Analog Phono. It looks like a thin standard interconnect but is only about 1/4 inch in diameter with ground wires on each end. There is one of these for each channel- they are two entirely separate cables. This cable is rather new because TCC had SR send it direct to me and the folks at TCC had not even heard it. They appear to have little or no capacitance . I say this because my pre-amp is a Herron Audio VTSP-2 tube unit and it has a stepped vloume control with 100 steps. Say for example if I had the volume set at 48 using the SR cable, when I switched to the Music Groove 2, I would have to increase the volume by 5 clicks to attain the same volume level.I am not an engineer but a musician, and this capacitance thing is strictly a guess. The SR has a very full, dynamic, extended sound with excellent high and low frequency extension. I realize that this is a lengthy answer to your question but as you can tell , I am very excited by this phono cable.
|
This thread is a great resource. I too am considering replacing some Purist Audio Design Musaeus biwire speaker cables. However, mine are a couple of years old and were the original release. I believe that the most recent version is a Rev. C - so perhaps the new Museaus are more competitive with the Accelerators.
I've been in contact with Steve at the Cable Company and he's been great. I will soon be purchasing a pair of the Accelerator biwires. Once I have them, I'll post my comparison observations. I'm really looking to get a little more top end extension and a more open airy sound. The museaus are fatigue free and organic, but sound a little too closed in. We'll see. |
Violin, What SR Tesla cable are you using on your VPT table? Is it the Apex design? Or does SR make an interconnect just for turntables. |
Emailists , I have a VPI table which has the connection block on the rear with RCA jacks,so the SR tone arm cable that I bought runs between the table and phono stage and has RCA connections on both ends. I am a violinist and have played in several symphony orchestras and this cable took vinyl listening to a new level. As far as timbre, dynamics, spaciality, detail and overall involvement with the music, it is the best that I have ever heard or tried. This Tesla cable is something else. I wish in a way that I had never tried it because I feel that now I will have to replace all of my ICs and speaker cable. It is that good. |
Violin
Is the tonearm cable internal or from mini din to RCA?
I am curious since I have a Stealth Hyperphono (which has been mentioned here as being better than even Purist's top cable) on demo but am still waiting for my turntable to arrive. |
Hi Guys,I have just finished a 3 week trial from the CC of the Hovland Music Groove 2 and the SR Tesla tone arm cable. The SR blew me away.I have never had better vinyl sound, in fact for a long time I stopped listening to vinyl because I was so disappointed in the status of tone arm cables.I listened 98 per cent to SACDs. I have ordered a 1.25 meter length of the SR Tesla from the CC.My vinyl listening will be a new experience after I receive the cable. It is fantastic. |
J_evege, let the cables sit still for few days and play music as much as possible. It takes a bit of time to settle.
So you noticed a bit of unnatural sparkle at the very top on symbals as well, ha?
I agree the bass, mids and soundstage are really good with this cable.
Are you going to try the next model up in Tesla line? |
J_evege, the Accelerator takes some time to open up and burn in even with the treble. My pair took about 300-500 hours for the treble to smooth out. I heard from others the same experience.
The cables are directional and have arrows. It is important that you install them correctly. No, it should not matter which coupler plugs into the cable. Many said that SR cables improve with the Quattro that can power all the cables. I use a PS Audio Power Plant Premier and have the couplers plugged into regenerated power. There was an improvement in supplying better power to the cords.
Give SR a call they are very nice and love taking about their cables and giving tips on how to improve the sound. HAVE FUN! |
2 days ago I received the SR Accelerator speaker cable from the Cable Company. I am delighted with the sparkle, liveliness, and clarity of the sound. I do notice a pronounced "ticky ticky" sound in the upper treble on high-hats which ,to me, does not sound completely natural. The focus of voices in the midrange is exceptional. The bass is very tight and clean. Spatial depth and portrayal of the space where the music is performed is also very good. With this cable each instrument or player is highlighted so well. Even rock music like Beck takes on a symphonic quality where every synth, guitar riff, vocal jumping out at you.
Does anyone know if the ac coupler has to be matched with a specific end of the cable? I listened for a day then switched them and I swear the sound improved.
I'm not completely sold yet, as my other choice is the purist Musaeus which is significantly less expensive and has a very lovely and natural presentation. The Purist cables are a bit unwieldy in the system. The SR cable is light, flexible and easy to maneuver. I do wish I could turn off those blue lights on the ac coupler. i prefer listening in the dark! Anyone in metro New York is welcome to stop by if interested. |
711smilin, can I stop over sometime? ;-) I'm very glad you got what you were looking for and Synergistic Tesla cables helped you achieve it. You should do a virtual system profile with pictures so we can drool over your system...ENJOY! |
Joeyboynj, all I can say so far is WOW, I am pretty frikin amazed by my enhanced musicality, and enjoyment. I even had a buddy over last night, Markr7 who told me my system is finally there, in his opinion. He liked the sound so much, he put an order in with the guy I got mine from. He gives me the best deals available. The cables are not cheap, but, they are fabulous, and synergize beautifully.
My It guy was over last night too, he love to rock out, so I put my rock amp into the mixture(Moscode 401HR, with PW ecc180's, and PW amperex 6922's)he finally admitted, it was the BEST system he has EVER heard. I just love it. Having 2 amps, both stereo, makes it so wonderfully easy to switch between the Mactone(quads WE 300Bs, and the monster)
All I can say is I am FINALLY there, the BEST system, I have ever heard, and it's in MY HOUSE..... |
711smilin, Please let us know how you like the Tesla Apex, Tesla Absolute Reference and Quattro in your system! Thanks.
Audphile1, I too am trying to be done with it and have been buying lots of CD's lately. I got a huge 600 CD rack from Audio Advisor and it is almost full! I'm glad you are enjoying the PAD cables. I do agree that everybody's system and preferences are different and you MUST audition all cable before you buy. The Synergistic line is just so addicting. I love the Accelerators but Im curious to try Acoustic and Precision reference now. Looks like its demo time again. ;-)
J_evege, The Cable Company is always very busy. Just be patient they will get to you. I visited them on Monday at their New Hope office earlier this week since I live about 45 minutes away. A bunch of great guys and gals that are very enthusiastic about music and equipment. Than I entered the cable room where they keep used and new stock, I nearly fainted ;-) Just kidding. Hee hee hee |
Jersey, I'm glad the cables came into their own for you. It is possible that the set I had was not fully broken in. As I said, I really liked this cable, but PAD Aqueous was just more to my liking.
The addition of the PAD speaker cable allowed me to just enjoy the music and stop thinking about any upgrades. As weird as it sounds, that speaker cable was the last thing I changed in my system since February! I haven't bought anything for my system since, except more CDs. For the past 2 years I've been screweing around trying to find that sound that I like. These speaker cables were the final touch. Within my system, this was the cable that sounded best, the final ingredient.
Negative about it......I spent a lot on music the past few months and ran out of space on my Boltz600 cd rack and now the discs are all over the place! :) |
Thank you all for your thoughtful responses. My system, minus the analog, which is on hold for now, is below.
I did not mention in my previous post that I have also auditioned the Purist Anniversary Aqueous cable. Unfortunately it was a solo audition so I could not do direct comparison. Despite all of my excitement to try the AA cable, my perception was that, in my system, the Musaeus still sounded better than the AA. The AA had a beautiful, sweet portrayal of orchestral passages and the human voice was very palpable- dead center in front of me. The Musaeus did all of this but with more air and spatial depth at 1/3rd the price. The AA sounded a bit flattened out and lacking in air and space around the music. The "black background" should not sound like the stifling vacuum of outerspace, right? I'm a big believer in auditioning equipment with high quality live recordings that are full of musican and spatial information.
Maybe my Isoclean power conditioner and cords (which I think are fantastic performers, btw) filter out a lot of the noise and hash so the Ferox liquid may be overkill in my system.
After hearing all of your glowing reviews of the Accelerator, I will definitely wait to audition them before I buy. I do want that warm Synergistic Research sparkle without sacrificing the Purist clarity. It seems the guys at the cable company are understaffed. It's been difficult to get replies and action in a timely way. I do, however love the service so I'll have to be patient.

I agree with Leica_man on his comparison. I had both Vortex and Accelerator.
Audphile1, it took a LONG time but the treble really smooth our and became more natural after Quantum Tunneling and a VERY long break-in 500+ hours. As far as more impact, Synergistic suggested I mix and match my system with others in their line and try an Acoustic Reference on the CDP for more dynamic impact and even warmer liquid midrange and bass. I will soon demo one from The Cable Company and report my findings in a few weeks. |
J_evege, And this is where "your milage may vary" applies perfectly!
It depends on your associated equipment and room. You really can not make an assumption how a particular cable will behave in your system based on somebody else's experience and comments on this site. The only true way to find out is to try. If you ever try the PAD Anniversary Aqueous, please be sure to let it settle for at least several hours(4-5) by playing music. This cable is very sensitive to movement and will change its sonic character and sound pretty bad if moved. It can not really be a direct swap between the Accelerator and Aqueous since both cables require time to settle. Just so you know. |
J_evege, I too auditioned my cables from The Cable Co. As it happens, I also auditioned Purest AA speaker cables, Tesla Vortex and Tesla Accelerators (interconnects and speaker cable). In my system the Vortex was a warm balance cable with excellent sound staging but compared to the Purest, it does in fact have less detail (and was half the cost of the Purest AA speaker cable). Enter Accelerator- this is the first cable in the Tesla lineup with all three Tesla Technologies- Zero Capacitance Active Shielding, Quantum tunneling and the Tricon geometry. This cable is in a completely different league. Now the Purest is the cable that sounded veiled and overly "warm" in my system. The Accelerator had much more air and was far more holographic. By comparison, the Vortex lacked the Accelerators air, speed, detail, and holographic presence, as did the Purist. As to the quality of the highs, once my Tesla cables were broken in they were utterly transparent and natural.
I definitely recommend you try the Accelerators as they are worth the wait; I have found the middle to upper end of the new Tesla line to be unlike any cables I have ever heard with warmth and detail in equal measure and sound staging that is out of this world- my system continues to impress me to this day. |
J_evege, I've auditioned both the SR Accelerator and Purist Anniversary Aqueous speaker cables and settled on the PAD. Although I can not really fault the SR Accelerator cables, I just liked PAD better in my system. It had more dynamic impact and a bit deeper and faster bass. Also, I noticed with the SR Accelerator sp cables that on classical recordings the cymbals came out just a tad more mechanical sounding in comparison to PAD, which reproduces cymbals in my system more naturally. Again, both cables are great, but in the end it comes down to your personal pref and your system synergy. |
Hi J_evege, yes I had the Vortex and upgraded to the Tesla Accelerator. BIG IMPROVEMENT! The magic is any SR cable that has the Tricon lens geometry or wires. These cables are very transparent, 3D, crystal clear with tight accurate warm midrange and bass. Read the reviews above in this tread. I'm sure the SR cable will beat the PAD cable no problem. You must get a demo and be patient. Dont decide until you heard the Accelerator. You will be glad you did... |
I just received my 1st Tesla PC, it frikin rocks. It betters, dominus(ferox, fluid),revelation VD, Stealth M5000, Epiphany, Alitheus(ridge street)2nd best on source.
I bought Genesis to compare this weekend, we will see.
I receive my Apex tomorrow too, should be a fun day. |
I've just finished auditioning the Synergistic Researcj Vortex and Purist Musaeus Speaker Cable from the Cable Company. They were actually out of Accelerator speaker cable at so I settled for the next best thing. I appreciated the lively warmth from the SR cable, but when I really listened in the dark with my eyes closed the Purist cable was more clear, natural, and detailed. They both sounded much better than my Kimber 8TC. The SR cable added a warm glow to the sound that was pleasant but not truly better sound in my opinion. Has anyone compared the SR Vortex speaker cable to the Accelerator sp. cable? If I could get that warm, lively sound with the added clarity and detail of the purist I would definitely go for a SR cable. |
THE PC'S ARE SUPPOSE TO BE WORLD CLASS, I WILL LET YA ALL KNOW NEXT WEEK. |
Regarding power cords, Eliot at Synergistic told me this: "Our current power cables have two of the three Tesla technologies incorporated in them. Zero Capacitance and Quantum Tunneling. Older SR power cords can be upgraded." |
All power chords are now treated with the Tesla stuff.. The cables are the same though, but they do that two million volt thing to them. I believe the same is done on the digital cables. Give Synergistic a call to confirm for sure if you wish - I got a response via email. |
I have not heard Synergistic come out with new power cords. The Absolute Reference power cord is from their X2 line, not the new Tesla line.
Does anyone else know any other information on new Tesla power cords? I've been asking my dealer with no response. |
I am waiting for the Tesla, apex, IC, and Speaker wire, along with the Tesla absolute reference pc's. I will lwtcha all knw in the coming weeks. |
Anybody try the new Absolute Reference Tesla power cord? If so how did it sound in your system? |
Hi all. Very interesting reading of the new Tesla series from SR...i have a growing interest in hearing those cables in my system, but here in Denmark where i live its not that easy.Offcourse i am very welcome at the dealers shop to give them a listening. But as you all would now,its not at all the same as to listen to them in your own system and livingroom. Flemming |
Joeyboyni I would upgrade one pr of the Accelerator first. From the Pre amp to the Amp.The speaker cables are at the bottom of the chain. And if you don`t like, send them back |
Leica_man, I'm thinking of trying the Precision Reference speaker cables. Im currently running all Tesla Accelerators two pairs of I/Cs and one pair speaker cable. Can you explain the differences you experiences going from Accelerator to Precision Reference speaker cables?
Thanks! Joe |
Audiolui:
My phono is the next frontier using Tesla's. I've been so in awe of my cd playback w/ these cables I haven't listened to record in a month -- truthfully I can't wait to hear what they really sound like. I'm still dumbfounded as to the level of performance of these cables and I have the entry level Accelerators (not the apex's)! Like I've been preachin' WOW.
I'll keep you posted on my findings!
|
I just tried Apex interconnect placed between my phono stage and line stage. It smoked my top of the line Kimber. It made the Kimber sound foggy. The Apex is indeed detailed, transparent, and very spacious. It is very quiet. It is detail but not aggressive. I thought my Kimber was very clear sounding. But the Apex is one level up. It sounded better over time. It needs some time to settle in. I used to have Resolution Reference, which now sounded rough compared to Apex. |
Audphile1:
That stuff is so trippy to me. I've never noticed it as dramatically as I did with the Teslas. Which by the way, continue to sound better and better. I probably have 150 hours or so on them now -- I'm very happy with them. |
Scottyw, it's not only with Tesla that this applies. Some cables are more sensitive to it, some less.
My Purist 20th Anniversary Aqueous speaker cable is more sensitive to this stuff than the Tesla was(although I noticed it with Tesla Accelerators as well).
When I bought it, Cable Company pre-burned it for few days. I think in shipment(it was obviously coiled to fit in the packaging) I think the break in tie that CC put on this cable was totally initialized back to zero. The Purist is so sensitive to movement, up to the point that if the cable is completely burned in and you take it out of your system and coil it, it may require an almost full break in cycle again. No kidding. I moved the cable a little about a week ago and it sounded like crap for the next 50 hours or so. Now anyone who touches it, it's an automatic death sentence. :) |
