Stand-mount speaker/monitor recommendation

Must you be bound to standmounts vs floorstanders that have the same footprint? If not, then would suggest the Living Voice Auditorium range.

Was going to reply, and your description of what you listen spurred me on.  Firstly, I was pretty much committed to buying a pair of Harbeth 30.1’s, especially after a week-long home audition.  I then accepted an invitation to another audiogoner to listen to some JM Reynard.  While there I asked about a pair of speakers he had sitting off to the side.  He pulled these out and said they were Omega Super Alnico Monitors (SAMs). He cycle through lots of speakers and said he was not getting rid of these.  I was amazed by what I heard.  Enough to that I went home, nixed the idea of getting the Harbeth’s, and called Louis at Omega and ordered a pair of SAMs.  That was 3+ yrs ago and these speakers still amaze me.  I drive them with an original hybrid Unison Unico (2 12au7 tubes in the preamp portion).  How would they sound with your musical taste?  Looking at what you described, that is pretty much what I listen to as well.  Sandinista never sounded so good!  This morning was Who’s Next, Yo-Yo Ma’s final recording of the Bach cello suites, Tim O’Brien, and Rokia Traore.  On all, the SAMs are wonderful.

i am using a LM 518ia with Omega Super 6 Alnico Towers. Great combination. I’ve also had Harbeth C7’s with the 518ia. Enjoyable but very different than Omega. The Super Alnico can play more genres of music better than the harbeths imo. The omegas are faster vs C7’s being more slow, polite and laid back. 

You hooked me with the "instrumental music." The Harbie SHL5+ is technically a stand mount.  A tad bass light for me, but for near field listening it's hard to beat especially with your LM amp.

Soix, I have experience with the Joseph Audio RM7 si. A nice speaker. I'll look into the Prism.

Kalali, here's my latest attempt to describe what I listen to. Thoughts on how the Omegas would fare? 

"I listen to a fairly broad range of music, with at least 50% being instrumental, often featuring some combination of (or by themselves) percussion, acoustic bass, guitar, piano and horns. I also listen to pop/rock of all eras, everything up to hard rock. Some reggae, soul/funk, and international artists (Africa + South America). 70s spiritual/space jazz (Pharaoh Sanders, Archie Shepp, Sun Ra) is often in the mix. Some classical. Extended late night sessions, mostly vinyl. Super Black Market Clash drops in occasionally."

I have a pair of Omega Super Alnico Monitors paired with an Aric Audio 18wpc SE KT88 amplifier and I think they sound fantastic. They don't go very low in bass but the bass that they deliver is clean and extremely tuneful and textured for the type of music I listen. Another option I had considered was Tekton Design Impact Monitors which should also sound great with low-mid power tube amps like your LM 518. They are probably closer to full-range but I'm doubtful if they can deliver the "soul" that the Omega speakers deliver.

It’s possible the Joseph Audio Prism could work.  They don’t specify sensitivity, but minimum impedance is stated to be 7Ohms. 

I have been following your other thread as I am curious what folks recommend. The Omega you are looking at seems like an awesome speaker with a lower powered amp but I haven’t heard it. I import a line of higher end tube amps with the bulk of the line in the sub 20w range which is why I am interested.  

Maybe take a look at Focal? They are a bit more efficient but I know will struggle to deliver the aesthetic that you like. The Kanta and Sopra No 1s might work....

My speakers are quite natural sounding and are extremely tube friendly like Devore’s but are far too inefficient to work with your amp. My most efficient speaker is 85dB and is brilliant with an 845 but I run a 45w push pull 845 rather than a SET. I specifically tested with an 18w SET and found it lacking.
