Joseph Audio Pulsar – Original vs. Graphene opinions?
https://www.josephaudio.net/pulsar"Seamlessly married to a newly developed precision cast Graphene coated Magnesium cone long throw woofer" -- tweeter, yeah I dunno if it's metal, my bad -- the woofers are metal, and I found the speaker I heard at...
Joseph Audio Pulsar – Original vs. Graphene opinions?
@soix Seas Excel tweeters with the copper horn use Magnesium domes. Seas' Graphene is coating over Magnesium.http://www.seas.no/images/SEAS_Graphene_White_Paper.pdfHave a great day
Best Speaker Choice for my very "non-audio-friendly" Living Room
This is definitely a very challenging room. https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/9787#&gid=1&pid=1You need really good off-axis dispersion and immunity from reflection, so I’m even more inclined to say you should just eliminate normal box ...
Joseph Audio Pulsar – Original vs. Graphene opinions?
How much do you find the originals going for used? My point still stands, pound for pound, get the biggest speakers in your budget that suit your room size and listening levels. Only go for 2-way bookshelves if you have no room for anything bigger.
Joseph Audio Pulsar – Original vs. Graphene opinions?
Well, it may have been a bad demo room....or the XO is just not to my taste. They were seriously zingy and not smooth. I generally dislike metal tweeters, FWIW.Hmm, just looked up the list price - for $10k...I dunno, I think the only reason to spe...
Joseph Audio Pulsar – Original vs. Graphene opinions?
I heard Pulsars at THE Show some years ago. Very impressive bass for a 2-way monitor, although the metal Excel drivers are just too bright/fatiguing for my ears. I prefer the smooooooth Nextel Excel drivers. Haven’t heard the Graphenes.
Best Speaker Choice for my very "non-audio-friendly" Living Room
An open baffle is a strong choice as it directly seeks to address the acoustic problems with the directivity of box speakers in a problematic room. Here’s the late, great Siegfried Linkwitz discussing the same https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrxwud...
Best Speaker Choice for my very "non-audio-friendly" Living Room
This is a rather wide criteria except "quite big" and up to the budget of the Cornwalls. Is imaging a big thing? Have you considered open baffles like Spatials?https://www.spatialaudiolab.com/modelsThen again, if you've demoed some models you like...
Why does bass have more “punch” when I stand up vs. sitting?
The rugs should be between you and the speakers; first reflection point is an imaginary straight line from the woofers hitting the floor, then an equidistant straight line to your ears on the couch. Also, the ceiling above that area is a reflectio...
Connecting a sub to amp pre-amp outs?
Yes, this should work fine, but take time to dial in the sub level again by ear, as you had done previously using the other connecting cables. The notional benefit is that a lower-level (should be less distorted and less lossy) signal is passed to ...
High quality, passive, balanced, low pass crossover?
I think Kelly is giving good advice here; this method works well for sealed speakers. The notional benefit of hard high-passing would be to reduce distortion from relieved excursion on the main woofers. In this case, I don't think it would make muc...
Why does bass have more “punch” when I stand up vs. sitting?
Sounds like a null in the room at the seated position; maybe from floor bounce. Experiment with rugs in between and something on the rear wall behind you.
Speakers selection
SCM40 uses a very similar (but not identical) mid-dome and is more reasonably priced, for sure. It is a sealed design, so a different but valid test of bass handling would be presented. I think if you could try this + the high-sensitivity Living V...
Need speaker suggestions for my evolving system!
KEFs don’t sound warm, IMO, though a lot of people like them for other reasons. Audition as many things as you can. Use the Arros as a benchmark. Ideally, take your amp along with you for demos, as pairing is a big factor.
Speakers selection
Another to add to your audition list would be ATC SCM50 passives. This will be a great test of the midrange. The speaker also has a tightly damped bass so a good test of lower frequencies, too.
