Speakers sound too bright.

I just bought a new pair of Martin Logan 60xti speakers.  They are too bright and fatiguing.  I would like to avoid returning them.  I've tried toeing them in and out.  I cant get them further than 1ft away from the wall (back of speaker to wall).  I have a about 1-2 hrs of play time on them.  Not sure if break in will help settle the upper frequencies down. Any suggestions...?

Sorry guys for the late response.  So, ended up sending the Dali's back and bought the Revel F35s.  I'm really surprised of the sound these speakers produced.  They sound better than the ML 60XTIs and the Dali's. I got them for nearly half price from Crutchfield.  Went through a lot to finally get something that I'm happy with.  Now I'm curious on how they would sound compared to the F36s.  Thank you everyone for your inputs. Much appreciated.

@rwalsh07 I'm glad you didn't succumb to cable nonsense and actually fixed the issue. The speaker

What do you mean the left speaker was positive and the right was negative?  You hook up the right speaker to the right channel on the amp and the left speaker to the left channel. Amp and speaker have a positive and negative posts. You hook up the positive post on the amp to the positive post on the speaker and negative to negative on both speakers. It sounds like you have something hooked up incorrectly. That will cause a problem.
