Speakers sound too bright.

I just bought a new pair of Martin Logan 60xti speakers.  They are too bright and fatiguing.  I would like to avoid returning them.  I've tried toeing them in and out.  I cant get them further than 1ft away from the wall (back of speaker to wall).  I have a about 1-2 hrs of play time on them.  Not sure if break in will help settle the upper frequencies down. Any suggestions...?

I’m using the metal jumpers that came with the speakers. My speaker cables are 8ft.

i’ll try positioning them straight.

They do have better dispersion and soundstage than my KEFs. It’s just the harshness than I’m struggling with. Maybe they just need to be broken in. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm new to this "forum" stuff.

Room: 30ft X 30ft.

  • Set up is on the front/right side of the room.  back wall is 15ft back from the listening position.  Left wall is 20 feet from the listening position. Right wall is 10ft from listening position.  In as sense, I'm in the right/front corner of a 30ft x 30ft room.
  1. Amp -- Two Schiit TYR Monoblocks.
  2. Pre-Amp -- Schiit Freya +
  3. DAC -- Schiit Yggy O.G.
  4. Speaker Cable -- Blue Jean Cable (10 AWG)
  5. Source -- Lumin Streamer

Pretty much bare wall, no room treatment, flooring is a mixture of carpet and laminate flooring.  I had my KEF R3 Metas set up identically but weren't nearly as harsh.  I changed speakers because the KEFs sounded a too analytical/metallic for me. I thought the MLs would richen it up a bit, floor is a mixture of carpet and laminate flooring.  The listening area has carpet, approximately 15ft x 15ft.  The speakers are on the carpet.

Hey guys, appreciate all the feedback. I’m soaking it all in.

something interesting last night, I checked the polarity last night and my left speaker was positive and the right was negative. Everything was plugged in color coordinated between the amp and speakers. Should I swamp the right speaker inputs to achieve positive polarity?

Thanks everybody.  I'm going to let them break in and give them a chance.  I will make the suggestion of jumper wire and the bi-wire option.

That being said, what about the polarity discovery that I mentioned above in the thread.  One speaker had a positive polarity and the other speaker had a negaive polarity.  Speaker cable connection are running positive to positive and negative to negative.  Is the polarity discrepancy normal.  Do I leave it as is?

I used an app to determine polarity of each spekaer.  The left resulted with a polarity of positive.  The right speaker after the test resulted with a polarity of negative.  Should the polarity of both speakers be positive?  I'm not sure how to determine "phase".

The app sends tones through the speaker and then gives me the result. Either positive or negative.

Obviously, I'm not either given me having to ask the question.  lol  I appreicate you chimming in though!

I adjusted settings in my streamer last.  I had it set to up sampling on various khz rates.  I changed them to native band it warmed the speakers up a bit.  I also played with the position a bit and adjusted my REL subwoofer.  It seems to have helped. I'm going to give them a bit to break in as well.

I did also order some jumpers to give rid of the factory provided metal jumpers.

Is it worth changing out my Blue Jean speaker cables?  I feel like some of these expensive cables are over hyped.  If its suggested not to keep the Blue Jean cables, what relatively inexpensive cables would you guys suggest.

The speakers actually sound pretty darn good, perhaps my ear is just adjusting to them from the previous KEFs.

And you right, bright is probably the incorrect term, definitely harsh in the midrange and upper high frequencies though.  There's no way I could have long periods of elevated volume, at least as of right now.

I also would hate to start selling equipment and start going down that rabbit hole again.  Its out of my budget.  I'm a blue collar worker.lol.  Champagne test on a beer budget.

I welcome and appreciate further inputs.

Yeah, if they dont work out, will probably try Lintons next.  For now, I'm going to give it 30 days and make a decision at that point. I have 60 days to return them.

@koffibaffor —overzealous bite in the lower treble is spot on. I’m tired of trying out different speakers. It’s a lot of work @ time. My budget is $2k. Either I keep the Logans or try the Lintons or Polk 700s. My gut is telling me that the 60xti are going to sound better to me. I’m not changing gear, I like me gear. I have some thinking to do. These white 60xti speakers are gorgeous too. Got some pondering to do. Don’t get me wrong though, these 60xti speakers sound really good, just bad recordings sound bad and good sounding recordings give me goose bumps.

I like this forum how everybody comes together in helping each find solutions.

muy first time posting…

Guys, any suggestions on what other speakers I should try out.  Budget is $2k.  Room is large.  So far, I've had the Martin Logan 60xti and Kef R3 Meta.  I dont want any fatigue and would like a big sound stage with good dispersion as well as output.  I have two Schiit TYR amps, plenty of power.  Appreciate any suggestions.

Decided to return the Martin Logans.  Purchased some Dali Oberon 7s. Hopefully these will sound better to me.
