Are you thinking of Nordost's room with Raidho X Monitors?
Speaker question for RMAF attendees
This year at RMAF in, I believe, the very first, or possibly 2nd at the top of the stairs on the Atrium Level there was a room with a pair of speakers I'm seriously interested in. An emergency page caused me to have to leave quickly and I never got back to the Marriott.
I "believe" the room was a european room but could be wrong. The speakers were bookshelf models in silver cases with a +/- 7" mid under ribbon tweets sitting atop ultra contemporary stands and filled the HUGE room easily (think Magico mini II's here!) with sound.
I've tried ever since using every resource available to me to find them but no luck. My hope is that someone here was perhaps as smitten as I was with them or at least sat up and took notice or perhaps picked up a brochure.
TIA for any possible leads!

Yes gentlemen they were the Raidho X Monitors! Only available in gloss black/gloss silver. And RMAF pair were definitely silver (least when I was in the room tho I cannot say if they had a black pair there also). Also correct on positioning as they were indeed "set very widely apart" at RMAF. I still can't believe the ceramic mid/bass drivers were only 100mm/3.937" diameter. Incredible! Thanks to everyone that posted here and the emailer who invited me to call today as he had pics, component and vendor info for every room. |
Here it is. It's one of Albert Porter's pictures of RMAF 2010. http://live.audiogon.com/i/rmf2010/f/1287973092.jpg Chuck |
*UPDATE* Just got off the phone with Raidho and found out the speakers I saw at this year's RMAF were custom painted silver (10% up-charge) Raidho Ayra C-1.0 Reference Monitors and not the X-Monitor. 15mm larger mid/bass drivers and one pound heavier than the X-Monitor. $14k including stands in Piano Black or Walnut at the only US dealer I've been able to find so far in San Francisco. Still a full 30% less than the minimum price I anticipated these would start at. Again, thanks for everyone's help as I couldn't have gotten this far without you! |
Ok, now I'm really confused as Raidho told me it was the C-1.0 custom painted silver at 2010 RMAF and I was also able to find it in print at Raidho's site. But the pic above without the lower mid/bass alloy surround bezel is definitely how I remember it looking. Admittedly, I do like the looks/specs of the C-1.0 much more but now have to decide if the C-1.0s are worth the nigh-on 50% price increase over the X-Monitors with stands. Decisions, decisions... |
07-20-11: Reverendo Hello Andre, A good quality 100W amplifier would be able to drive the Raidho Acoustics X-Series (X-Monitors) though in my experience they can benefit from even more power. I presently own X-Monitors brother, the Raidho Acoustics C-1.0 (similar specifications to the Raidho Acoustics X-Monitor) and I have them driven to good effect with a Gryphon Diablo integrated Amplifier. These speakers produce astonishing bass for their size. The dealer I bought my Raidho speakers from also carried KEF and size by size the Raidho was a far better speaker than the KEF Reference 201/2. Biggest difference was the resolution with Raidho's ribbon tweeter clearly being able to resolve more information than the Uni-Q. |
