Speaker placement

I had an interesting experience today: a studio acoustical engineer came to my house and spent the day doing measurements and giving advice on set up.

I spend a lot of time adjusting my speakers and gear (SF & Mc). Well how wrong I have been. We spend an afternoon adjusting speaker placement, toe in, and listening position. Now, I’m not talking huge changes, 18 inches here, 2 inches there, etc., but the results are quite amazing.

Imaging is vastly improved, glare eliminated, and sound stage is improved.

These small differences easily equal hardware changes I have made and all we did is move things around a bit here and there.

This is all before any room treatment, which will be coming.

Lesson learned for me.

When you used a laser to measure the distance from the top of each speaker to the ceiling above, what did you find?

In some rooms, with some equipment, placement changes of  a quarter of an inch (or less) are audible.

I stated this in another thread about do you change speaker position when you change your amp.  The answer is still no you don't contrary to what others have said.  This is why when you go to shows, you hear systems that do not sound good.  If you move your speakers a half an inch you should hear the difference when properly set-up.

Audio Physic's website has the instructions under the support tab.

Happy Listening.

Get the speakers away from the back wall and you'll be fine and toe in toward the listener ensuring proper Center imaging.

It's not rocket science.
