Speaker cable for passive subs

When running speaker cable directly wired into passive subs does it matter what type of cable you use being that its only carrying 80hz and below? Do material and gauge matter in this application?

Thanks!

Thanks guys! Not sure what I'll get yet but it's relaxing knowing I don't have to spend a fortune on this part. I've got some long runs to the back of the room and was worried that if I wanted to keep sonic integrity it was gonna cost me a fortune.

From an overall current perspective, the bass signal has the highest voltage swing, and therefore the most current for a given impedance. If any speaker were to need thick cables it’s the subwoofer.

Having said this, if you want something relatively inexpensive that works great for bass the Mogami W3103 from Parts Express is a good value. It’s actually closer to 11 gauge than 12. It’s a metric cable so it sits between the two gauges.

I also recommend the 3104, but it’s honestly hard to work with unless you are bi-wiring, and then you can get it for cheap at Markertek

@blue_collar_audio_guy - it depnde on how sensitive your hearing is.

My speakers go down to around 24Hz and my cables allow me to hear the textures in the bass notes - particularly on Acoustic Double Bass or the low frequencies in Electronic music

So for me it’s a no brainer

If you think you might be missing out, take a look at Zavfino cables - they will bring out details and dynamics in the lower frequencies you might otherwise be missing

I have read here many times sub cables/wires are not important, save your money. any decent gauge depending on length.
