SoCal 2025

I attended The Show SoCal 2025 last weekend. I am glad I did. It was fun and educational. There was a lot of great sounding equipment there. My biggest surprise is how loud (very) most audiophiles like to listen to music. It also confirmed for me that the size and shape of a room has a big effect of the sound.The bigger rooms offered much better acoustics.

Approximately half the vendors used turn tables. I was a little surprised at how little surface noice the records produced. I did not notice a difference between the rooms with turn tables and those using digital that I could associate with the source. I think the speakers made a bigger difference.

If you have not gone to a Show I would recommend it.

Well at shows the music gets played louder to compete with the room next door.  Even if you want to play it quieter in your room, patrons come in with their ears blown out from the previous room and ask for it to go higher.  Many of us wish we could play it softer.

The turntalbe setup in our room (Akustika Eterna) was provided by Highwater Sound in NYC as Jeff is a friend of ours,  It retails for $70k and should sound good (and did).  To be clear, AE was our room, the turntable system was TW-Acoustic.

I'm from the Sacramento area and I was at the show.  I did notice that the rooms that were streaming via Qobuz sounded just phenomenal!!!  It was a great show.
