So, I got scammed. Beware.

Doesn't seam like anyone here is as naive as I am, but please beware of this Swedish site: hifitorget.se

I had a lengthy transaction with a seller there which ended up being a total fraud. I paid and they've vanished, its been 2 weeks. Today I had a friend in Sweden inquire on the item and he received an immediate reply from a totally different name, saying it was available.

Fraud claim has been filed and who knows if I'll get my money back, but it's quite upsetting. Just be careful with online transactions.

PayPal (eBay owns PayPal) makes a distinction between ’paying for goods’, and ’sending money’

eBay no longer owns PayPal. They sold it off in 2015 I believe, and in the future will be partnering with another money transaction company. From what I have read, PayPal may not even be an option on eBay after 2023.
I got my money back. THANK GOD. Now I just need to find the perp and dangle them off a terrace.
PayPal (eBay owns PayPal) makes a distinction between ’paying for goods’, and ’sending money’

No protection of any kind if ’sending money’. It’s friends or family, too easy for fraud ...

Therefore, insist on seller sending you an invoice thru PayPal, then you qualify for PayPal/eBay buyer protection.

I sent money, no invoice, not eBay, item on Canada Audio Mart, item received smashed. Absolutely no help from PayPal, except ..

My credit card said

1. we temporarily hold transaction, you don’t need to pay us, no interest will be applied.
2. if not resolved by my efforts, in 14 days their computer will automatically make a claim to PayPal.
3. PayPal will make a claim to recipient of the money
4. If not resolved, PayPal will cancel that person’s PayPal account.

When I told my seller this, he took a few days to consider ... then refunded me in full.

I never found out how I might have been covered by CC if all attempts failed.

Oh yeah, it was a Vintage TT, and during the shipping damage claim the Canadian branch of UPS determined "it's a collectible, we don't insure collectibles" (after selling the insurance). So, make sure seller does not label it's age, vintage, ..., just TT, whatever
As long as you pay with a Credit Card you should always be protected by your CC company (or Paypal).  Anybody that pays in Cash, Direct Wire transfer Bank to Bank, Personal Check/Cashiers Check/Money Order is being a fool if they dont know who the other party is.
No, thankfully not from Audiogon. Of course not all online purchases are fraud, I do them all day, but just calling out this site as it appears to be rife with scams.

This is the seller: https://hifitorget.se/visa_annons.php/marantz_sacd_cd_spelare_94127.htm

Did the sale originate here on Audiogon? A little more info if you might as not all online puchases are fraud, if you could name the culprit that would help. Good luck and sorry for your situation. Enjoy the music
