Should there only be one company making gear?

Since there are such strong feelings regarding audio gear, with one company being right while the others are wrong, would it be easier on our psyche if there were only one company?

For example, one person might love Krell gear while another prefers the Rouge 88. Rather than the two of them fighting or disagreeing about the merits or shortcomings of the other, wouldn't it be easier/better if these conflicts did not exist?

Is it possible that there will ever be a piece of gear on which all audiophiles could agree?

Rooze-Why do you cut Albert slack?
I bet he's lurking here waiting to come in with a gut buster!!
Jax2-I've been threatened to be yanked by AudiogoN a few times.:>)

I think I saw somewhere in the rule book that states 'no boner jokes allowed'
I guess AudiogoN really went all out and covered all the bases when they became moderated and set up 'the rules'
I wonder where this thread is heading next!
All of you (you know who you are)with the exception of Albert, should be looking out your windows and expecting a van to pull up at any moment. You know the one, two guys in white coats jump out and haul your sorry asses off to the nearest 'facility'.

Seee you all there.

Rooze
Are you suggesting that the moderator should be yankin' a boner that's not his own? You have sunk to a new low David99!

Marco
I wonder if this will make it in the top 5 threads of 2004?? OR,get yanked soon?!?
Nrchy ... I'm truly sorry for what I did to your thread. A quick jibe at historical reenactments, a follow up with the b*n*r word, and now the thread is lost at sea.
Jax-Nah,I got it right.
Those poor boners (on the Boners) I meant..:<)

Isnt the rule book number 4569.90z read "all posts are to be made in a mature manner"?
Gosh,this is some thread.
Jax-Nah,I got it right.
Those poor boners (on the Boners) I meant.:<)

Isnt the rule book number 4569.90z read "all posts are to be made in a mature manner"?
Gosh,this is some thread!
Ah, I don't think I got that far in the rulebook. I'll have to bone-up on my Agon etiquette I guess. It's thick...that rulebook. And its hard...to remember all those rules.

Marco

PS...I think you meant to write; "...those poor Boners", and NOT "...those poor boners"
Jax2....follow the AudiogoN rules.
Rule number 3498.78B "Stick to the subject matter" gottcha!! :~)
BTW..real funny post..those poor boners :~(
Think about it; If there were no boners, would AIDS be the epedimic that
it is? I don't think so. I'm not saying H.T. Boner and his family are at
fault, not at all. I do feel sorry for H.T. Boner's children...the 'little'
boners. I guess H.T. was a little boner once himself. Now H.T.'s boner
is the reason there are more little Boners suffering the torments of their
classmates ridicule. If I were H.T. I would have cut it off at the source
and not subjected more children to suffering the legacy of being a little
Boner. And then, later in life, just a "Boner". A man can get
that fixed you know. The elder Boner could just get the damn thing
snipped inside and take the clams outta' his man chowder so they don't
go makin' no more lil' Boner's with the missus. That, or I'd have legally
changed my name to something less provocative...like Bush perhaps.

Marco
Boner pills? NOW this thread is getting interesting!
Look what you did Nrchy!!
People in the middle ages didn't get old enough to contract a multitude of today's diseases. Increasing life span is because of medical science. There has never been a cure for a viral disease, so immunizations are used to "trick" physiology. Small Pox has been erradicated and Polio is on its way because of science and because of financial means. If any of you knew the complexity involved in curing, you may not have the expectations that lead you to insult an institution. Also science costs a lot of money. If one knows in the ins-and-outs of financial mess then one can judge the degree or who is at fault. I know about the patient and mal-practice insurance, which is a chain reaction hell, but there is no easy solution. My point is money is a problem, but the scientists and MD's, in general, have done a hell of a job.
Marco ... completely agree. I think it's obscene that we spend so much money on boner pills, statins and diabetes meds when children all around are dieing of easily cured diseases, and when malaria, TB, and AIDs are killing so many. There have been many occasions where I have not purchased audio equipment because I just couldn't live with myself dropping $100 on a cable, knowing that MSF could save many lives with the money. Perhaps audiogon could have a charitable donations section ?
Also as a British citizen living in the US I feel in a good position to compare socialized versus privatized medicine. My conclusion is that both systems could work well, and both are utterly screwed up in the UK and US, in the UK by vast layers of incompetent management (thanks Mrs Thatcher !) and in the US by political backhanders and savage greed. Fire all the managers on both sides of the atlantic and let the doctors and nurses run healthcare.

Nrchy, I don't think it's the medical SCIENCE that is failing us, but rather the vested interests. Science has shown quite clearly that if we all went vegetarian (or greatly reduced meat), reduced refined carbohydrates to a minimum, and exercise moderately that our national health would be greatly improved. But then there's more money to be made in urban sprawl, SUVs, Big Macs, and the resulting medical care (statins, bypass, chemo etc etc). I am a big believer in taking care of my own health and only go to a doctor as a last resort.

That said, when the staph infection had my right forearm swollen to twice its normal size, and I was in some degree of discomfort (British understatement !) I was rather glad for IV antibiotics and painkillers. Tofu and brocolli just wasn't going to cut it on that occasion ! :-)
I guess my point was that not everyone died during the middle ages, and not everyone is dying of these terrrible diseases today, but for the ones who are affected the result is the same. There are more bad diseases around today than there were then. How is that for a ringing endorsement for medical science!

AIDS, so one theory goes is an offshoot of antibiotic resistant syphylus. There are many diseases that have gone underground for a short period to return as stronger strains that are resistant to the ubiquitous antibiotics found today. We haven't cured much really, just made it stronger, while peoples immune systems are worse than their stereo systems!!!

Even the meds for AIDS don't cure it, they just drag out the life of the poor unfortunate who has to be treated.

I must commiserate with you on the appendix issue though. I had mine out at four years old in Austria. Quite an adventure as I recall.
Seandtaylor99... Though Nrchy may not be infected, if you'd asked that
question in South Africa, or perhaps Thailand you'd find that the figures
are likely close, if not surpass those you quote for 13th century Britain.
I'd hazard to guess that many of those infected may eventually prefer to
be dead as opposed to living with the results of a compromised immune
system and the disease it may bring. I'd also make a guess that if 13th
century Britain had the medical resources to combat the plague, and the
medical system were similar to our insane version of same here in the
good ol U.S.A, most of those people would still be dead because they
could not afford to be treated (much as many folks with AIDS in the U.S.
cannot afford the meds). Thank you Pharmaceutical corporate greed,
and the stranglehold that the powerful (read: wealthy) medical
establishment has on our country.

Comparing treatable ailments to AIDS or Cancer for which there is still
no cure (and most certainly affecting large populations around the
world) is ludicrous. Also, in spite of medical advancements that you
mention, people are dying all over the world from infections and
diseases just as treatable as those you survived. Glad you made it BTW
as a burst appendix is a very serious matter.

Marco
Nrchy ... have you had AIDS, ebola or syphilus recently ?
On the other hand in 13th century britain 1/3 of the population was killed by plague, and in some towns 2/3 of the population.

I have had burst appendix and a staph infection in my arm. I'd have been dead twice over if I'd been born 200+ years ago.
I was heading over to the Thai joint to pick up some Phad Thai the other day and almost ran off the road going under a highway overpass. There are some large park-and-ride lots that are empty on the weekends, and some group of large armored men (and women?) were pairing off with large swords and shields going at one another in about half a dozen mock-battles. It was quite a sight as they were all wearing a full body of very convincing reproduction fighting armor from head to toe. Big-ass swords and shields too - definitely not toys! I almost thought a film was being made, but there was no trucks or crew to be seen, just the fighting couples! It was dusk and the lights were just coming on out there. Really bizarre! Oh, and Nrchy in armor add's a whole new dimension to that Quizno's match-up I mentioned earlier!

Marco
Oh yeah, I sure am glad we don't have horrible debilitating diseases like AIDS, ebola, and syphilus anymore!

Hurrah for modern medicine, or as it was known in ancient times through the middle ages: the occult.

The greek word for occult is: pharmacia. Sound familiar?
This historical reenactment makes me laugh.

I think they should randomly spray the inside of the helmets with plague, smallpox or syphilis. Now that would make for a real reenactment.

History is a fascinating subject, but I bet it was bloody miserable for the "subjects". Hurrah for modern medicine !
Actually I sold all of my armour except for my great helm and shield. I used to do a lot of mideval re-enactment stuff, with full contact combat. It took too much time away from the family though.
When all you Norse wanna be's are stocked and ready, please post your full-body glossies here. Your enthusiasm has spread to the inner circles of top Hollywood casting agents, and you're all going to be extras in the next four Heath Ledger projects.

Howard (or perhaps more appropriately, Hobart)
Museum Replica's is OK...I ordered a helmet as a prop from them once...pretty nice stuff. But selection is a bit limited. As far as helmets go, they ain't got nothing over this place. You will find your horny hat on this page David. Scroll down to the bottom of the selections it's down there. You'll have to order from the UK though, but you'll be all set to join up with the Viking contingent.

Albert-Always happy to keep the smiles coming. Life should be more fun eh? I'll put an extra dollop of whipped cream on your slice!

Slappy, when you see me comin' you better start runnin'! Better yet, start right now! Those horny helmets David's gettin' are just gonna make for a mighty silly sight when they go flying off'n yer noggin'! You can leave the brats and beer behind as a kind of an offering to the gods. We'll make sure they get'em.

Marco
WOW! Armor piercing battle hammers, clubs and maces! Maybe I need to stock up on these.
Cool site.
I couldnt find any horn hats though.
eBay maybe? :~)
I nearly choked at the comments from Jax2 and Slappy, literally laughing until I could not type.

This is what we need at Audiogon, more fun and entertainment.

PS. I hate Krell and tubes, been lying about my system. I use a wind up picnic player, so bring on a slice of that pie!!
For those that dont know me,I can 'sometimes' push peoples buttons.
For those that do know me,you already know that!
This thread was started because I pushed a sensitive button.
I am as sensitive about the gear I have as the next 'phile.
In the deleted Krell thread that started this thread,I pushed Nrchy's button and then all hell broke loose.
It carried over to here.
I want to say to Nathan (Nrchy) Im sorry for letting this escalate into what it has.
If I had kept my fingers to myself in this thread we wouldnt have had a gang fight in the planning stages.
I will make a honest attempt to stop the button pushing (except when candles are glowing)
Sorry Nathan and everyone else turned off by this.

Hey Slapman,do you have full Viking armor? Do you have one of those horn hats?? I want one,if you have an extra one.
I dont think I'd want to mess with you,Slap!
Bring it on!!!!
It'l take a helluvalot more than your rag-tag group of candy assed schoolgirls to take down the slapman!!

Time to pull out da hammers, Judgement and Damnation, bringin a new definition to the phrase SOLID-STATE

One thing Slapp ain't afraid to do is jump in the fray! 100% Nordic blood here! Pumpin the blood of my viking ancestors!!!!

>:)
Marco-
Actually,I was going to jump on the Slaps side and we'd kick all your asses!!
Over and out..its been..fun?
Oh man, David, you blew it. I thought we had'em!? That put's you on the list for pie too! Heck, I'd better bake another one the way this thread is going!

Marco
Slappy-This is all a setup to get you in one spot so we all can kick YOUR ass!!! :~99
Hey Marco!
Ill bring the beer and brats!
This is gonna be great!

NRCHY, Remember, it is not fair to bring the Sons of Silence! They gotta hang back! Hells Angels too!

David99, Same goes for you, you have to leave the contaminated hypodermics from junkies at the office, and no getting bent on PCP before the brawl!

Where the hell IS Gunbei? He wont wanna miss this! That slant-headed fool is totally MIA. He probably got stuck in a book or something.
Sounds like one of those terrible "Quizno's" subs
commercials (don't know if they are nationwide though):

In this corner, weighing in at 225lbs., fresh out of doing a dime at
Rahway on an aggravated manslaughter charge, we have the current
reigning champeen' AN-ARE-KEY!!!

And in this corner, weighing in at a scant 165lbs, taking time off from
his job as a 'nursie from Perry, NY", the challenger, DAY-VID-
NINE-TEA-NINE!!!!

OK guys, you know the rules...or maybe you don't...in case not, they are
moderated_guide.html>here. Take yer personal disputes off the
list! Personally, I'd say life's too short to waste your time scrapping over
stereo components with a complete stranger. But, hey, that's just me,
who spends all too much time opining here.

Ha! Speaking of hypocrisy ; Look who's talking about following the rules,
eh?!!! But really Boys and Nursies, can't we just all be a bit more civil to
one another?

Marco
No play ground fight for me Jax2.
I's just a little nursie from Perry,NY
Did you see the pic of nrchy on his big ol' scooter?? He bad!
Hey KP and Slappy- Lets go play on the monkey bars, looks like there's gonna be a fight here in the sandbox!

Marco
So what you are saying is.Its ok to bash others gear as long as its not on audiogon?
You are a hypocrite and its all too obvious you have prejudices.
Explane your e-mail to me "A nurse from Perry,NY,figures".....I still am stumped by that one.
And it's sedative,not sedetive.
I have no 'anger' towards Krell owners, thats absurd.
I posted in the Krell thread (which is what this thread is all about) That I had a friend who received poor service from Krell.
Another poster stated he was treated poorly also.
You made this personal by attacking my system in the forums and now you have the balls to post a thread to encourage anti-bashing gear?? LOL!

Still want to kick my ass?? As you wrote above "I consider AudiogoN to be for mature adults"
You are a real piece of work.
BTW..are you Carl_Eber??
David, I did not post any of that on this site as I consider AudiogoN to be for mature adults, I responded in kind to the e-mails you sent to me. I did not ask you to contact me, and I do not want anything to do with you now.

Look at what you posted and then asked yourself if that is the type of material you want floating around the ethernet with your name attached! That is the perfect example of what I am complaining. You are irrational in your extreme anger toward anyone who does not have the same gear as you, or who prefers something else.

So do you think there should only be one system and you should be the one to decide what that will be, and the rest of us have to get what you have determined to be best?

Take some more of the meds you are slipping from the patients, but go for a sedetive this time.
After me and the boys are done with Slappy, we'll head on over to Nrchy's place! We got plenty of that Whoopass pie to go round. Don't worry Nrchy, it's low-fat! Can't help with the 'old' part though.

Marco
Nrchy-I just read your e-mails again.
I stand corrected.I stated you wrote 'tubes are for old people" actually, you wrote "tubes are for old,fat people"
You also wrote "your system is a poor excuse for noise"
As I said, you are a major hypocrite and have posted one farce of a thread!!
Oh,and you also mentioned to 'kick my ass' in your e-mails...good one Nrchy!
Nrchy- I am not falling back to my 'previous form' I made an error in the mono's is all.
You did say you hated them (and tubes)
Why dont you mention your remarks about "I wouldnt own gear in your system on a dare" or "tubes are for old people"
Or,and this is one I havent mentioned.
"a nurse from Perry,NY figures"
I still havent figured that one out!
Do you dislike nurses? Male nurses? Perry,NY??
If any one would like to read the e-mails this person sent me e-mail me.
It will show what a hypocritical moron this guy is.
This thread is a farce by you Nrchy.
David once again you fall back into your previous form. I never said I hated the Cary's. I don't hate the Cary's but they are not as good as my previous amp. The Krell sounds better in every respect, but not by a huge margin. The Cary's are good amps, but I still prefer solid state.

The comments I made which said that your comments were inappropriate were made after you attacked a company about which the author of the thread was relating a complimentary experience. Perhaps you don't care for that company (which your comments clearly indicated), but that has nothing to do with the exemplary service he received from them.

Boa2 If I said that about tube CDP's I misspoke. I have never heard a tube CDP from any company. I'm still looking for a tube turntable : )!
sorry,Cary mono's you said you hated.
Practice what you preach Nirchy
"I wouldnt buy some of the gear you have on a dare" "tubes are for old people" I think that says it all.
Nrchy-you posted to me in a previous thread
"I wouldnt buy some of the gear you have on a dare"
This thread had not taken on a personal attack mode until you posted these remarks.
I came back swinging but after some thought, I had audiogon delete my follow up posts as I didnt want to heat up further the already heated thread.
Now you post this thread crying about gear bashing?
WOW!!
In one of your emails to me you said "tubes are for old people"
You told me you had some Conrad Johnson TUBE mono blocks you hated.
In this thread you state you own no tube gear.
I could go on about how this post (your post) is about people exactly like you,but who cares..
Man,what a hypocrite you are!!!
Nrchy,
You mentioned that you had never found a tube CDP that matched the digitals you've had/heard. What have been your favorite players?

Howard
The most amusing aspect of my situation (other than reading these threads) is that I had sold my Krell amp before this person began their tirade and am currently using a friends Cary V12 monoblocks.

I'm pretty sure I will buy a Krell FPB 600 or the new FPB 700cx, so I can get back on the 'hate' list.
