Schitt YGGDRASIL vs Bricasti M3

Can anyone comment on these two dacs? I’m looking for a dac that has great clarity with an extended high end. As a flavor I would say bright and detailed vs dark and warm. Budget is $5000. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A friend replaced his Yggy(the original style) with the Bricasti and couldn't be happier. I've always been impressed with the Bricasti after hearing them in a number of systems. That's coming from a former Gungnir owner.

Yggys now come in multiple flavors as they had to change the design due to lack of available parts. Be sure to notice which Yggy people mean when considering their viewpoints. Jason S. of Schitt talks candidly in great detail about their manuevers on their youtube channel. Cheers,

Spencer

+1, The Bricasti M3 DAC, including the MDx board, is outstanding, and I highly recommend it if you have the supporting high quality equipment and you want state of the art sound quality for its price.

"The MDx was implemented in production on all products starting January 2020, and is now available for upgrades. In keeping with our upgrade philosophy, all past D/A converter products are eligible for the MDx upgrade including all versions of the M1, M3, M12, and M21".

One reviewer said “The core of the Bricasti M3 DAC is actually two cores; a Delta-Sigma DAC for PCM processing and Bricasti’s own one-bit modulator for DSD. The digital and analogue sides of the M3 (no matter what configuration) are fed by two completely independent linear power supplies. The M3 is fed by a solid array of digital audio connectors and outputs to equally solid balanced and single-ended analogue connections”.

I went from Yiggy A1 to MiL ... WOW! the increase in detail was everything I was hoping for. Definitely not a dark sounding DAC. Lots of people like the LiM, but they say it's smooth, mellow and soft. If you're looking for the other side of that coin, check out the MiL Yiggy.

A good friend has the Yggdrasil and it sounds good, I have an original Bricasti M1 not the SE version and prefer it. Although I've listened to the M3 and like that the best just more "tone" and body to instruments. Have always contemplated getting my M1 upgraded or go with an M3. Choices if only I had the $$$
