I have been looking for a pair of used AegirsNot yet they were only released a short while back, unless people bought them not knowing you only had 20w to play with and it wasn't enough for what they wanted to do.

Schiit Aegir power amplifier low power Class-A linear amp Stereophile review
I have been looking for a pair of used Aegirs to show up but at the tiny discount people are willing to pay for used ones I might just do a new purchase, (back ordered or not). There was a listing on eBay a couple of days ago for $680 + $60 shipping = $740 plus tax. After shipping differences, that’s only a $90 discount ($800 + $30 shipping from Schiit) for used and NO WARRANTY. I offered a reasonable $550 + $60 shipping - but it got bought at full price within minutes. I find the used marketplace for Schiit gear irrational at often only a 10% - 15% discount. (as much as they might offer good ’value’ at new prices). |
I just ordered the new Freya+. Why? Because Mike mentioned that they are almost sold out AGAIN, and I, in righteous indignation snapped one up before they are gone and I have to wait another few weeks to only put it off again and then regret it. Uh, I think there’s something odd with my thought process there, but trust me, I’m happy! :) I'm pretty sure that the Aegir is not for me as I don't have efficient speakers, but if I ever do... |
George: Yeah, it’s good stuff, without the "million dollar external gilding" that sucks so many "glitz queens" into paying 10 x what they should. Just so they can gaze in amazement at their purchases while "trying" to listen to music. "Dam! I should have been a poet" look out Leonard. Cheers George |
the Stereophile article bumping the Aegir to "class A" got my attention and perhaps saved me 4 grand...I haven't pulled the trigger on an Aegir yet but I might soon as it just seems like a lot of fun for relatively small bucks.I love Schiit and what they are doing. Schiit are usually on the marketing mark, but missed one big opportunity to dominate the market with harder to drive bigger bi-amp'able speakers. https://www.stereophile.com/comment/588159#comment-588159 Cheers George |
I'm very happy with my 12wpc Dennis Had tube amp, but have been interested (or just curious about 'em) in a Pass XA25 for a while, although haven't dropped the 4900 clams for one yet...I own a few Schiit products already and think they're very well done and sonically superb items (preamp, EQ, headphone amps), but the Stereophile article bumping the Aegir to "class A" got my attention and perhaps saved me 4 grand...I haven't pulled the trigger on an Aegir yet but I might soon as it just seems like a lot of fun for relatively small bucks. Note that now that I've mentioned this a few times I'm gonna look like an a'hat if I DON'T buy one...damn...painted into a corner... |
I posted about that review on the audio karma forum. There was surprise expressed, with one poster immediately disparaging Stereophile. Mind you Stereophile also praised the amp brand that this particular poster was raving about, but no word on whether Stereophile got those amp reviews wrong as well! That's a major achievement for Schiit, they are really on a roll. |
