Another vote for the Oppo products. They are very well built, sound great, are very flexible (will handle virtually any type of shiny disc), customer service is among the best in the industry, and the resale value is second to none...
"Regarding a standalone SACD player, what would you suggest in an SACD/CD only stereo player, with XLR outputs, that would offer DAC performance comparable to my outboard DAC?"
There's really no way to answer that in general terms. You need to go by your own personal taste and budget. If you list your system and price range we may be able to point you in the right direction. Also include any other info you feel is important.
Thank you very, very much for your prompt responses. Verdi noted. Regarding a standalone SACD player, what would you suggest in an SACD/CD only stereo player, with XLR outputs, that would offer DAC performance comparable to my outboard DAC? I am shopping used here on Audiogon, but I'm having trouble separating the wheat from the chaff! Many thanks in advance for taking the time to share your expertise.
The only transport I can think of is the dcs Verdi. And one of those may not be easy to find. Also, someone mentioned I2S. You need to be careful, especially if you have older equipment that supports it. Not everyone uses the same connectors. It would probably be better to just get a stand alone SACD player.
Not sure but you may want to check with them. The I squared bus (hdmi) may allow it but best to check with them. You won't get sacd via the coax or optical connection.
