Running Springs Audio Harley

Hi Audiogoners,
I am having the RSA power conditioner which I purchased secondhand several years ago. It was running very good until today. When I turn on the Allnic L3000 preamp and H3000 phono stage, the units turned on but off right away. I tried several times and the same thing happened. To be sure it was not the problem on the preamps, I connected the two preamps directly to the wall outlets and they were working as normal.
I think the problem was on the RSA unit. I tried to search for the company but could not find the company’s website. Does anybody know any info about the company please?
Thank you,
Calvin

I don't know anything about RSA, but if the unit is doing exactly what you have described, it needs to be replaced. Probably not worth spending $$ to repair unless you can do it yourself. Especially true if you bought it used.
EBM - actually they never went "belly up".  The parent company whose primary business was capacitors was sold and RSA was a part of the deal.  The new owners made a half-hearted attempt at producing RSA power conditioners but ultimately their lack of effort meant that the RSA division was shut down.  Just for your edification....
In case I have to replace the RSA, could anyone recommend any better power conditioner? I only need one to use with my line stage and phono stage.
 Thanks
I can’t speak from personal experience with Puritan Audio conditioners, but depending upon your budget you might want to check out either their 136 or 156 model. Type in Puritan Audio in the Form search bar for a fairly recent thread on them. Also you can search on Audio Circle under power conditioners. They seem to have a lot of very happy owners. Archon Audio is a dealer that sells them, there may be others (I’m not affiliated, just providing some info).
I have both the Hailey and a Jaco. I bought them both new or as show demos actually. Mine have been working fine but as mentioned the company is dead, which is a shame. One of the features of the RSA products were the high end capacitors that the original design engineer developed and produced. At one time they were sought after as a high performance piece.
You may try a repair shop to see if they can be repaired, but obviously OEM parts are not going to be available.

good luck

I really wanted to look inside the RSA Haley but I cannot open the cover. The company used some kinds of fastener which I cannot use the usual common tools to open it up. Do you know what do the RSA used for its unit?
Thanks,
Calvin
Calvin, sorry but I have never tried to pop the lid on one. Those look like some kind of hex/Torx screw. That said I would be careful opening the cover on something this as it could store a charge and "ZAP" you when you do get the cover off.

Good luck

Always nice to see an old thread return.

I got a used Haley 15 or so years ago to use with the preamp and DAC. I knew nothing about it but the price was right and with all the positive comments, why not try it!  And I knew I could sell it for what I paid for it so nothing to lose.

I tried it in my system against the Audio Magic I bought a couple years before.  The Haley brought on a significant gain in clarity.  I knew this was a great value after what I paid for the AM.  I had also tried a far more expensive Sound Application device in my system and that did nothing at all.  The Haley was a keeper!

I took this newly found discovery to a friend's house.  He was using a Shunyata model.  After a short audition/comparison, he wanted a Haley .... and got one very soon after.  We both put money back in our pockets with the Haley purchase.

I bought a Dmitry a few years ago as I needed a unit with more outlets; the Haley was pushed to the HT system.  A year or so later, one of the Haley's outlets failed and had melted.  The cover was riveted as @dangcaonguyen pointed out.  The Haley sat on the sidelines for a year as I did not know what to do with it.

Finally, last year, it was either throw it in the recycle bin, or repair it.  Ultimately, I drilled out the rivets, 4 on the top and 6 on each side.  I then replaced the outlet with a Furutech Rhodium outlet.  I got some clips from Lowes that attach over the case's sheet metal on the inside.  The clips have a threaded hole to take a machine screw.  I put a clip at each of the drilled-out holes on the top and a few on the sides.  I used 1/2" steel screws to secure the cover to the unit.  The Haley was saved for the cost of a much better outlet and a bunch of $1 steel clips and a pack of screws.

I have not compared such devices since those years before.  No doubt gains have been achieved here over the years, but for the price, the long discontinued Running Springs products are a great value.

Still using the Dmitry in primary system and Haley in secondary. Both still operating as new and never seen the need to upgrade. I live in a rural area in the PNW so power is already pretty clean but they do make a difference. Also have a Duke not being used that probably should let go.
