Roon drops signal


I have been using Roon via a SGC optic transporter and Bricasti M5 streamer feeding a Rockna Wavelight DAC.  Periodically at the completion of an album the signal is dropped and I have to stop and restart the DAC to continue the music.  I reached out to SGC and was told it was likely a networking issue related to Roon.  The really interesting thing is it seems to be specific to certain albums ( ie always occurs at the end of a given album ).  Has anyone encountered a similar drop off?  And more importantly has anyone figured out how to fix this?

My network Arris Surfboard SB8200 router.  Our internet uses Plume Pods.  I run a 12 dollar unmanaged TP internet switch to the router and the Bricasti Network Bridge and the SGC sonictransporter, are connected to the TP switch.  Previously we had an Arris Modem/Router ( slower internet ) and both the SGC and the Bricasti were both directly wired to the Arris; same results.  The drop outs really began with the replacement of my old Roon Nucleus with the sonic transporter.  That seems to be the change that began the issue.  Andrew Gillis does not think it has anything to do with the SGC,; eventhough the onset of the issue would seem to suggest otherwise.  I appreciate any help you can come up with.  Thus far I have rebooted the sonic transporter several times, adjust the sync delay as suggested on the Roon website; both to no avail.

Yes, networking issues are very frustrating, but they aren't unique to Roon or the Nucleus. As an example, my Netgear managed switch was slowing down my streams. Replacing with a $20 unmanaged TP Link switch solved my issue. Also, I had far more trouble with dlna apps than with a ntworked Roon Core, etc. Cheers,

Their customer support is abysmal; both for hardware and software.

I am trying Roon and am having drop out issues, whereas using my lowly Bluesound Node as streamer without all the Roon Core/Nucleus hardware it never had drop outs.

I have the Nucleus connected to the home LAN, not using wifi anywhere.  But Quboz hi res, anything over cd quality, fails to load properly, and skips and then stops.  Happens less frequently but still sometimes with higher res feeds from Tidal too.  

Thinking its my cable modem internet speed being the limiter but then why no issues at all with the Node?

Roon has been problematic for me so far.  I can see the cool interface and all but if it can't deliver the music what is it good for?

With Roon and Tidal both frequently doing software updates, one, the other or interaction between them could be just likely the cause as the change from Nucleus to SGC. Like I suggested earlier, I would try to isolate the issue via a Qobuz trial to potentially eliminate Tidal as the issue. Then open a Roon support post if Tidal and Qobuz both have the same symptom. All of these issues started after I replaced my Roon Nucleus with the SGC sonic transporter.  I made that change after one of the ports on the nucleus broke and Roon was essentially useless in getting it fixed.   

One thing about Roon - if you Roon server has been up and running for weeks or months, it might not be a terrible idea to reboot it. Any time I’ve had dropouts (rare), that has solved the issue.

 

I run a Roon Nucleus, wired directly to my DAC which has an inbuilt endpoint.

 

Also, if you’re running WiFi, it might not hurt to run software which can look at local channel usage by your neighbors. When I was running the modem/router supplied by my ISP, I would regularly get drop-outs because my neighbor’s hardware was "louder" from a signal strength standpoint. I bought an ASUS WiFi router and no longer have an issue in this regard.

@mpomerantz I never use Tidal, but am tempted to try Qobuz, especially with 3mo free trials available. Perhaps you could try Qobuz and see if you get the same symptom. That might be useful info to include either way in a Roon Support post if you end up doing that. Cheers,

Yes its all streamed files from Tidal.  I do have the latest updates on Roon and the sonic transporter; but no on my remote/tablet.  I think I will try the tablet update first, as that seems the least painful one to update.  Thanks for the advice.  I must admit, I have become quite the technophobe and really like the plug and play world.

I will let you know how it goes.

Yes and that’s why I use the streamers software (Moon’s MiND 2). 
 

I only have one system so the meta data wasn’t worth the subscription to me. 

@mpomerantz I've experienced the same occasionally. Is this happening when the music is streamed files vs. local file on a drive/NAS? If the latter case, one thing that helped was in Roon Settings>Library>Skipped Files you can see a list of tracks that Roon is having trouble digesting. These may include corrupt tracks, incompatible file formats, png artwork. I found that removing those tracks from my library folder helped eliminate the issue. 

If they are all streamed files, all I can suggest is make sure you have latest updates in Roon, Sonictransporter and the OS on your remotes.

If none of that helps, a deletion/reinstall of Roon database and Core might help, but that will take some time. PM if you need help with this. I crawled up the learning curve and did so to fix another issue.
