Room sizes, 14x22(ceiling 8) vs 12x16(ceiling 7 1/2)

Presently all my gear is in the smaller room.

The speakers and amplifiers I have can easily handle a larger room. They probably are oversized for the smaller room. But if you had your preference based on this limited information would you move all your gear into the larger room. Is it going to make that much of a difference? Due to room layout for both rooms, the center of the system can only be spread against the longer wall, which I know is not the greatest but may be all right.

It’s a big deal moving gear into a different room and then discovering what it all sounds like. Fortunately it’s on the first floor so I won’t be able to jump out the window after listening to it if I don’t like it.

Hmmm.  Larger room with higher ceiling would be my first answer.  My listening room is in our basement: 14.75’ x 21.5’ x 6.75’ ceilings.  It would sound so much better with higher ceilings.  That said, I don’t have my speakers on the long wall.  I prefer the short wall placement.

Try the AM Acoustics room mode simulator and compare the two.

Pay particular attention to trying to keep the listening location and speakers out of the lowest room modes.
