ripping/streaming?

I never much cared for making copies of music, and have not done so since the early '80's with analog cassette tapes.

I recently got a good deal on a Roon Nucleus Plus Rev B with a 1 TB SSD. I am hoping that my fellow Audiogoner's can advise me on making the most of it

. The rest of pertinent system is Verizon fiber optical into a Verizon modem/router connected to an old laptop with built in DVD recorder disc drive  (not much faith in this transport) both of which are about 40' in a pretty straight line to the 2 channel audio rig, to which I'm hoping to connect to an ethernet switch (?) and then from the switch to the Roon Nucleus Plus Rev B  ( and other a/v gear) and then connect the Roon Nucleus to an Oppo UDP 205 as the DAC. I have a little under 2000 CD's that I'd like to load onto the Roon Nucleus's 1 TB SSD. Can my fellow Audiogoners suggest the best simple, value oriented gear, cables, software, setup, etc.to proceed. There has ben some recommendation to first rip the CD's through something like "dBpoweramp" before ripping directly to the Roon Nucleus. I'm not especially looking forward to this project, and I dislike redundancy in gear and procedure, but know that I don't know what's best.

Suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.

The main reason for using programs like dBpoweramp, XLD, Max, EAC etc is to obtain bit perfect copy by going multiple times over the same sector.  This big task can be much easier if you rip only CD that you want to listen to at the moment.  That way all CDs that you like/listen to more will be ripped first, spreading this task over time.    I keep 2 unpowered backups, one at home and one in the bank vault.

Ripping can be pretty tedious I agree with kijanki use a program I like dbPoweramp, and do a few at a time.

+1 for dBpoweramp.  I have been using it for years.

Highly recommend that you rip your CDs uncompressed. I rip all my CDs as uncompressed FLACs (i.e. with zero compression). Zero compression will get you the best sound quality.

Now, with zero compression, you will be unable to rip all of your almost 2,000 CDs to a 1 TB SSD. But I still suggest using zero compression. Once you run out of room on your 1 TB SSD, you can always rip the remainder to an external SSD that you plug into the back of your Roon Nucleus (fyi I have a Roon Nucleus as part of my setup). Feel free to direct message me via Audiogon if you have any questions.

I have a Roon Nucleus Plus with 4 TB SSD.  I have a couple thousand CDs.  I figured that ripped CDs would sound better than streaming.  When I first got the Nucleus Plus, I ripped a few CDs via dBpoweramp, then transferred them to the SSD.  This was a somewhat tedious process, but I was willing to endure it, at first.  However, a phenomenon occurred that stopped me in my tracks from continuing  ripping.  And that phenomenon was, I found that I enjoyed the sound of streaming my music via Tidal so much, I quickly lost my motivation for ripping CDs any further.  Happy listening.
