Rega Aria

I recently won an auction for a Rega Aria from a gentlemen from the UK. I was unaware of the the electrical differences between both countries. So now I have it here in the USA and I don’t know what I can do to make it work. Any suggestions? He won’t accept a refund. So I’m stuck with it. Hopefully I can make it work and hopefully you guys have a idea of how I can make it work.

Contact Rega, you would actually need a step-up transformer to reach the original design for 230v and I believe 50Hz vs 60Hz.

I would believe there is a simpler solution.  Of course the power cable connection may also present a challenge.  You will figure out a viable solution.  Congratulations on the win.
Thanks for your help guys. I ordered a step down converter and should be getting it shortly someone sent my tale of woe to Rega. The Rega rep concern was the 50 Hz versus the 60 Hz. The Rega representative suggested I send the unit back to them and they would fix it in the UK. Which is an option I guess. I’m going to check to see if the converter does work and if it does then I’ll be OK but somehow I think that the entire experience will be compromised. But I want to thank you for your help.
According to the manual I found on-line, the input voltage is either 230 or 115. Here is a cut/paste from the manual:

  • AC supply 230v & 115v Nominal +/- 10%
  • 230v 20mm Fuse T250mAL
  • 115v 20mm Fuse T500mAL
I would think you simply need to change the fuse and acquire a US spec. power cable. But that is just my best guess as there are no details in the manual regarding how to change the voltage. You might try to contact Rega or a Rega dealer for info.
