New reel to reel tape is still being manufactured.  Two good ones are Recording The Masters and ATR.

I can vouch for RTM, excellent tape.

Between RTM and ATR I'd go with the one that's easiest for you to obtain. They are both very good.

Just make sure whatever you get is backcoated.

Backcoated tape is not an issue. All modern tape formulas are backcoated now. They also have excellent stretch and strength properties so they are less likely to break. They are dead quiet and sound amazing. As I stated above ATR and RTM are the best tapes made. All of the master tapes that are being sold now for example from Acoustic Sounds are using these tapes to record their product. Buy with confidence, you can't go wrong with either of these tape choices.
