Question Regarding Using Two Subs In HT

Hi all. Have decided to go with two subs in our HT set up. Is it essential that they be exactly the same? We just bought a Def Tech 600 package. And now I have an extra sub. It's an Energy Take Five.  Thought I could save money if I could get away with it.

Bill, thanks. The sub that came with the speaker package is a small six inches. Our existing sub is an Energy 8 inch. I'm currently trying to find someone reasonably priced one on the used market so we can have a matching pair.
" Ok, makes sense. Our installer was adamant a second sub be indentical. Not wanting to spend that $ right now."

In his defense, it would be ideal but for now use what you have.

Phase, placement, volume/gain, LPF all very important and not easy to get where I wanted it.  Not perfect for music but for HT more than pleased with results.

Definitely do not have to be the same.  A little more difficult to get it "right" but most times very doable.   I should know, I am/was using 5 subs, twin Klipsch RT-10ds, one Klipsch RSW-10d, one SVS-SB13 Plus, and one Revel B-15.  Lots of trial and error.

The more subs the better. No they don't have to be the same at all. More subs gives smoother, faster, better bass.
