Another Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio fan here!
Presto Music Tsuyoshi Yamamoto hi res download
I subscribe to Qobuz and enjoy their extensive hi resolution jazz files, but they don’t have everything. Of late I have rarely paid for music, outside of my subscription fees. I used to buy some DSD files from NativeDSD but since getting a DAC that emphasizes PCM I haven’t bought any downloads in a long time, other than Tsuyoshi Yamamoto’s Blues for K, which was available to listen in Qobuz for some time, and then it wasn’t! I loved the album, so I bought it from Bandcamp in a redbook download. Perhaps that is their strategy- have people get exposed to the music for "free", and then make them buy it?
Since then I have read about another Tsuyoshi Yamamoto album that was well regarded, What a Wonderful World from 2013. I thought about just buying the CD from Amazon, which would be my first CD purchase in many years, and then burn it and transfer the files to the internal drive of my streamer, but I noticed their was a high res download made available by their label Venus shown here so decided to track that down.
But who has it available for download? I checked Qobuz first, nada. Nothing at HDTracks, Prostudiomasters, Bandcamp, or hresaudio either. I google "tsuyoshi Yamamoto hi res download" and get nothing.
And then I discovered Presto Music, and there it is! Signed up, bought the album in 24/96 Flac, downloaded the download manager and dragged and dropped the files from my laptop to my streamer’s app- easy peezy- I am listening to my new music in minutes, much better than waiting a week for the CD to arrive.
And this album sounds excellent, no idea how different the hi res version is from the redbook files, I don’t plan to buy both to compare, but the accoades I read were correct- a close miked recording, a little up-front, but the musicianship and sound quality is exceptional.
I never heard of Presto Music before but searching Audiogon a few have mentioned it over the past few years, it must have gone over my head at the time, but looks like a fantastic place to buy music and some other stuff. Jazz and classical specialists, fully independent, and I see they pay their artists 10 times the royalties that the regular streamers do.
"With over 160,000 classical recordings, over 70,000 jazz recordings, over 850,000 sheet music titles, more than 55,000 music books and over 40,000 musical instruments to browse and purchase online (of which tens of thousands are in stock and available for immediate dispatch), Presto offers an extensive catalogue to suit musicians and music-lovers, accepting payment in 15 different currencies and shipping to over 200 countries worldwide."
So just giving fellow A’goners’ a heads up about a lesser-known place to get good audiophile quality downloads, and saying how much I like another Tsuyoshi Yamamoto jazz album.
Enjoy your music!
