Using sonicwave glass tosslink cable from cd player to dac, bought on ebay long time ago,7years ago
Optical Cable recommendations
Does anyone have any optical cable recommendations?
I want to pull the stream from my Blusound Node 2i into my Schiit Gugnier DAC just for giggles.
I was told by someone at a cable company that most of the glass cables are made by only a couple manufacturers and not much real difference among them. Makes me wonder about some of the expensive optical cables I've seen. I've tried plastic Tosslink in the last and it didn't cut it.
Thanks in advance.

Very good inexpensive glass Toslink, I use: https://www.uniqueproductsonline.com/6ftgltodiauc.html It comes in 3', 6', 12' and 25' lengths |
There is a lot of talk about quality of optical fibers but do look at the loss per meter, it is really high, on the order of 10dB or so. Some good quality cables specify the loss and some are really very good - less than 3 dB per meter. Other expensive cables I have found don't specify the loss/meter, so it makes me suspicious. |
Very good inexpensive glass Toslink, I use: Same, the best I have used has been the Wadia optional extra AT&T glass (not plastic) optical cable, but that used a bnc type connection it is the highest quality optical I've used. And much better again I also used it with very expensive Indexing Gel on each end to rid any air pockets and to give clean mating surface to both. receiver and sender. https://ibb.co/DWHx8nd http://www.techoptics.com/products/consumables/adhesives/index-matching-gels/ Cheers George |
Liatec optical cables are an easy recommend. Good quality glass (470 strands) at reasonable prices. http://www.lifatec.com/toslink2.html |

That loss seems unusually high.... https://www.flukenetworks.com/knowledge-base/simplifiber-pro/loss-budget-calculation-simplifiber-pro |
but that used a bnc type connection it is the highest quality optical I’ve used.Sorry it’s a ST connection not bnc as I stated, used with indexing fluid that was way ahead of anything https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/High-End-Glass-Fiber-Optical-ST-Interconnect-Wadia-EAD-Audiosynthesis-et...
