New DAC suggestions

Thinking about upgrading my dCS Delius/Purcell in my headphone system.  Bought it in 2001.   Have loved the sound but the Purcell can't handle input above 24/96 which it upsamples to 192.   No DSD.  I auditioned a Chord Qutest since I have a Mojo2 for portable use that I like.   Highs sounded harsh to me and overall sound was not as good.   Suggestions appreciated.

I dropped off my Schitt Yggi+ OG with a top end headphone vendor for him to test it out for a few weeks. He is now coming around to how incredible this DAC is. Not warm, just neutral, and relatively low cost.

Since this DAC is no longer made the replacement is the Schitt Yggi+ More Is Better (MIB). I am going to convert my Yggi+ Less Is More (LIM) to the MIB for my headphone system. My phones are extremely detailed and neutral and sounds very good on the OG. A future upgrade of the phone I have is a bit warmer. I heard it on the Yggi+ OG last week and it was stunning.

@habrandt what is your budget?
On the low end of the price range if you like the Chord sound you can try Chord Hugo TT2 which is more refined than the Qutest with smoother highs, fuller mids and better bass. Only thing I didn’t like with the TT2 and the Qutest is both DACs were really sensitive to the quality of power and sounded their absolute best only very late at night. And this is considering the fact that I have s dedicated circuit for digital and a totally separate dedicated line for analog.

I use Bricasti M3 now and love it. It has multiple filter and clock options that result in very subtle changes but allow you to tune the DAC sound to your liking.

Also consider the fact that the equivalent of your dCS by today’s standards is probably dCS Lina. You won’t get away with a cheap dac here…

If possible, you need to listen to DACs in your system. I've been going through the process of trying to replace my DAC for almost a year. This is my experience to date, not an absolute, but based on listening to various DACs in my system.

Rockna Signature: my wife and I hated it in our system...bright in my system, I didn't like the soundstage, and it just didn't sound good

Bricasti M1 SE: lacked detail in my system, not as dimensional as the DCS Rossini or Dave

DCS Bartok(non-APEX): lacked detail, dark tonality, in my opinion it's overpriced for what you get

Mola Mola Tambaqui: very similar sound as the Dave, but the bass wasn't as articulate and defined as the Dave, if I owned the Tambaqui I wouldn't sell it for the Dave

DCS Rossini APEX: does everything better than any DAC I've ever listened to in my system; unfortunately way too bright and couldn't enjoy the music,

I'm looking for a DAC below $20K to replace my Chord Dave. I tried adding the MScaler and didn't like it in my system. I may purchase the Ideon ION DAC without hearing it in my system, but I'm scared to.
