nad m51 with prasound jc2 bp

advice welcomed...….when my nad m51 dac is connected to my parasound jc2 bp via xlr slight muffled sound experience.....switch to rca cable conn.improved sound....I was told to ''lock-in'' volume on the nad and use the volume on the jc2

Are you using very different XLR cables than your RCA?

Use your preferred connection, at short distances you don't need XLR.

Yes, use the maximum volume on the NAD or the "fixed" setting. Eliminate multiple volume controls. :)
