Marigo Virtuoso CD Player mat

Well, I just received the current Marigo Virtuoso CD mat, which is placed on top of the cd for most drawer loading machines...Summary:  this is the final step in completing my CD playback set-up and I'd do it again a heartbeat.  Does not interfere with cd player drawer at all.  My CD player is a Marantz SA8004, amp is a Acurus DIA 100 Mk2, IC is OmegaMikro Excalibur ribbon, and speakers are ProAc Response 2.5's, all set up in a near-field listening arrangement.  SC's are a dealers private label, but I expect they are a mid-grade Straightwire version of some sort.  Before I got this mat, I was actively looking for new cables to get me closer to the "you are there" presentation.  After selling my serious playback system years ago (Rowland, JM Labs Mezzo Utopia, Theta Gen V A. Straightwire Virtuoso throughout), I have been trying to see what this older retiree can put together on a budget in a dedicated listening room. Well, this setup was very musical from the start, but with the addition of  Marigo CD mat, I think I've gone as far as I can go, and that is pretty far!  With decent to very good cd recordings, I am "there".  And depending upon the recording's mic placements,  very immediate, dynamic, open, just as though I am front row center.  Nuances & overall presentations are excellent, very musical from the softest to the loudest passages.  And soundstage is broad, better defined and stable.  With mediocre recordings, there is not as much to enhance, and any benefit is marginal....but the better the recording, the better the results...to me, this is the final 10%,and is as far as I can go, but time will tell.  New cables?  Probably, but I'm not sure why. Typical Listening:  The Best of Eva Cassidy; Nanci Griffith Last of the True Believers, Bela Fleck Live Art (CD#2), Keith Jarrett At the Deerfield Inn; Cantate Domino; Rob Wasserman Duets.

Just  checked out their web page on this item. The mat is directional. $250 before taxes and shipping. Does the mat clip onto the cd or lay on top of it?

The name sounded familiar so I went back and checked and back in the ’90s I bought the Marigo Orpheus Crossbow CD Mat. At the time I do not remember thinking I heard a difference. But that is not to say that there was not a difference. Anyway, I’ve got a Maranzt SA10 now, and from trying a smaller carbon fiber disc ("Herbie’s Black Hole CD Mat") I get the impression that the drawer mechanism of the SA10 doesn’t seem to appreciate foreign objects placed upon the CD.

$250??  Holy cow!  Well, all I can say is the name may be the same, but that is not at all the same mat I bought back in the '90s!

In many ways you’re no the same as you were in the 90’s… what’s your point, exactly?

OP here...the Marigo cd mat lays on top of CD face...the side with images...at 90 degrees from the text/images on the face of the CD...I have no problem with clearances. It just lays there...you can easily fiddle with it with your finger to get adjusted. Can't imagine it would work for transports that require the face down.  UPDATE...I recently updated my speaker cables to Straightwire Virtuoso, a very open, lively, life-like "you are there" presentation...a premier cable by any measure.  The improvement in overall presentation with the mat is not as noticeable as before with Straightwire mid-grade speaker cable, but still worth using.  MY CD player to amp IC is very revealing, OmegaMikro ribbon...I'm getting then most from my system and the Marigo mat takes it up a notch...just more life-like information

Face down or up...silver side down/ printed side up is proper attitude.  Silver up will not work, I don't think.
