Limited Vinyl Reissues from Target--yes the store

Have you any experience with reissued vinyl sold by and through Target stores?

Target is a semi-exclusive (from what I can tell) retailer/distributor for many reissues of albums being pressed on vinyl.  I have found some of them to be really great pressings, especially for the money.

The albums are pressed on some decent vinyl.  Some have special offerings--clear or colored vinyl.  Most all that I have seen are put out by major labels and reportedly use master tapes.  The price is fair if not great. And, I've gotten some strong sounding pressings--for the most part.

The downside is those pressings that come from US plants sometimes use terrible inner sleeves. Or, if it's not a special gatefold album the jackets can be mediocre quality, which is kind of standard these days unless I'm buying specialty labels.  That's not to say all of them are like this.

I recently purchased Elton John's "Diamonds", which is essentially a modern day compilation of his and Bernie's favorite songs.  The quality of the physical media is awesome.  The sound quality is top notch on this one.

I haven't had a bad experience but do recall an underwhelming pressing.  I'll check my Discogs account to follow-up with which one.

I find it pretty great that some new mainstream sources of vinyl are decent to great.

As always, your mileage may vary and you'll win some and lose some on purchases.

What has been your experience ?

I had no idea about Target for LP's, therefore nothing to add except thanks, I've got a few interesting 7" in the cart waiting for someone to ask me 'what do you wfc?.

Parllaments doing Sgt. Peppers

I discovered one of the Target "limited edition" pressings by accident, and have ordered a couple.  I have no complaints with them.

Good to hear Big_Greg!  There are some gems out there, and some mediocre stuff.  I discovered them the same way too.

@elliottbnewcombjr , Woah!  I never knew that recording existed.

I'm just trying to take pleasure in the fact that a major US retailer is now selling this stuff.  It's like 1985 or 1975 again.

No issues.

good quality presses.

only problem currently, is the price of a record!!

For 25-33$, I can get the cd for 9-10$, have money for lunch and a 12ver on the way home.

 Record prices are stupid costly!

I buy used LP's and CD's on Discogs. Select Format; Sort by condition, then check seller's reputation. Very Good is as low as I go. never had a problem, the shipping is what gets you.

I use Discogs like an addict.  But prices, like most things these days, are very high for good pressings.  It's nice to find new vinyl that actually sounds good, because that isn't always the case unfortunately.

HALF-SPEED LP's??? Worth extra $12.????

they have Bob Marley (others presumably) in 'half-speed' lp version, vinyl $22. half speed extra $12.

run tape and lathe at half-speed, better?
