Legacy Audio Studio HD Bookshelf Speakers vs ProAc Tablette

@freediver -I’m not a loud listener on this rig, so what you say makes sense. That’s reserved for the bigger one in the livingroom, which BTW, has ProAc D30R floorstanders. I used a soundmeter and typically listen at 60-65 db. I "cranked-it up" and in this room 75db is plenty loud.

WRT tubes and cables-I started with the stock tubes, Tung-Sol EL34 and TungSol 12AU7, which are really good. After the requisite amp burn-in period I moved on to NOS Brimar 12AU7, mid 1970s, blackbase EL34/6CA7 Siemens. I’m using Quicksilver silver RCA interconnects, which IMO are a STEAL.

Regarding power it really depends on how loud you listen..The RD2 is actually more efficient than the Anni so if you are happy with the level of volume you are getting with the current system I can't see why you wouldn't be happy with the RD2's..
 I also wonder..Have you tried a tube roll on the Italy?Simply swapping the tubes might give you the added sparkle you desire..I have no recommendations on what tubes might do tthat but it might be worth a try & certainly cheaper than upgrading speakers..Another avenue might be a cable swap..If your using copper cables a change to silver plated or pure silver might also give you want you want..Maybe talk to the folks at "The Cable Company"& see what they think...

@freediver -I think you have described what I like about my ProAcs, and want more of-the sparkle on top. I am wondering about the power requirements-ProAc says the D2D are 30 Watts minimum. And the D2R are 20 W minimum. Thoughts?

One day, as I was moving things around, I put the speakers back with the tweeters on the outside. In my smaller listening room, I agree.

I have Tablette Anni’s after downsizing from Harbeth M30.2Xd’s & IMO,except for bass depth feel they are every bit as good as the $6k+ Harbeth..
 WHEN I am ready to upgrade it will be to Response D2D,which I demo’d recently & found to be Tabi’s on steroids with much deeper,textured bass,very very similar midrange with some added sparkle on top,adding some resolution & detail to the sumptuous ProAc voicing...
 I didn’t care for the RD2 Ribbon,feeling the dome tweeter had better sound staging,finding the ribbon slightly beamy...
 The Response D2 would also be a good match for your Simply Italy so no amp upgrade needed...One more thing..I can NOT for the life of me understand why ProAc says put the tweeters on the inside of the speakers when set up...Do yourself a favor & swap them around with the tweets on the outside,the staging will explode in size & imaging will tighten up...

I have heard both models but in totally different systems, different rooms, different times. It's tough to draw solid conclusions from that type of listening, but I think you are generally right with your research about polite versus lively. 

I would think the Legacy set would be superior for more modern records. If you play a lot of rock, pop, girl with guitar, and similar music, they would be more dynamic and impactful, also have more snap. But for jazz I think they would be inferior to your ProAc set. Especially when factoring in your Unison amp which is probably an ideal match for the ProAc and not really that great for the Legacy.
