Introducing Echoes Music

This is to announce the first public beta¹ for a new Music Player app for macOS.

Feel free to download and try it out.
ALL Feedback welcome!

A little background

I suspect not many people here use a Mac as their source.
I do. A mac mini, running an ancient version of iTunes (10.7).

Reason being that I find newer versions of iTunes (now called Music), very disappointing to the point of being unusable with a large collection (1000s of albums).
It is just not practical to display all albums of all genres in one big grid. It's like a massive crate in a car boot sale.
It becomes even harder to use when a collection spans 100s of genres / styles, and includes 1000s artists whose names (German, Japanese or other, become a lot harder to remember).

Hence the development of Echoes Music ...

Does NOT run on iPad (maybe v2)
Music can be placed on a NAS, but it will not be optimal for v1. Attached SSD drive is best. "Sharing" is also left for v2, but there will be a remote app before the final release.

--------------------

iTunes playlists can be imported.
There is a Menu item under Library.
...But not the "smart" playlists, whose format is proprietary to Apple.

Echoes Music attempts to move away from Rule base searches, introducing a new "bookmarks" concept, where you can bookmark say a Label like "Blue Note", and with 1-click get all Blue Note albums. We think it's quite powerful.

Finally Echoes introduces the concept of "stacks". A playlist made of albums, similar to the stacks one uses in the physical world.

Downloaded it to my iPad.  Now how do I make it edit music collection that resides on my NAS?

For sure this is a very crowded space. WE are trying to focus on 1 thing only :

LARGE COLLECTIONS. No streaming, no cloud, no services, no subscriptions.

But do it in a way that solves a simple problem :

How do I navigate (and enjoy) my large collection that includes a ton of pianist, guitarists, composers etc from all around the world, spanning a myriad of Genres / Styles.

PLUS, do it in a reasonably Hi-Fi aware way.

Meaning 3 things : Exclusive use of the audio path + RAM playback + Auto-Sample Rate switching to match what you are playing.

.....

P.S. Assuming Apple's approval, the app will be sold on the App Store for a nominal fee, similar to that of a game app - to support further development.

Please download from the link above and send us your thoughts.
Cheers!

I’d be interested.  Hopefully a lot cheaper than Roon.  Keep us updated.  I have seen similar software that was going to do the same thing crash and burn
