In your experience, what is the best Dinah Washington recording?

I have a few CDs that I like, but none are in what I feel is real stereo.  The CDs I have are the type where her voice is in one channel only rather than centered.   Also I am interested in what your feel are her best performances.  Thanks

You have to find Dinah’s recordings in mono. Since you listen to CD, you have your work cut out for you.

Her albums were recorded during the period of hard L/R. Dinah on the left, accompaniment kinda center, mostly right. Just like early Beatles.

All of Dinah work in the 50’s is a sure bet. I seek out Dinahs work only in mono. Tough work, as I only seek out her 50’s LP’s and just to find one has ypically seen a rough life.

There may be remastered CD's with a proper stereo mix?

I have this mono bin find that’s great-rare excellent condition and fun listen. Dinah is front and center with her band around her.

Dinah 62 she's center.  It's a GREAT album but then again they're all great

Dinah Jams, For those in Love, In the Land of Hifi and Dinah with Quincy Jones The Complete Sessions are all terrific from the perspective of production work, material and supporting talent.  The album credits read as a "Whose Who" of the current jazz talent.

All of these are quite listenable and dynamic.  The QJ sessions particularly excellent.  None of these suffer the hard L R stereo placement syndrome.
